As a Bears fan, I have to admit to breaking a commandment.  I was and still am, a big Brett Favre fan.  I couldn't help myself.  I am the same age as Brett Favre so I basically watched him the bulk of my life as a football fan.  He hustled, he made moves he shouldn't have and they worked.  Brett Favre was a true blue football player and I respected him for it.

Did I love anytime the Bears knocked him around and beat him down?  Of course I did.  But, for the most part, I cheered for him and along with everyone else I begged him to retire and was happy the Bears helped him make that decision in his last NFL game on the frozen turf of the Minnesota Gophers field.

Thank goodness for Aaron Rodgers, now I can officially hate everything about the Packers, the way a Bears fan should!   Aaron Rodgers did his time behind Favre and emerged as the Hero of Green Bay fairly quickly.  Fans flocked to him and turned their back on Favre as he went next door to Minnesota, burning his jersey in the street and stomping on his memory, the same guy that put the Title back in Titletown, USA.

Enter, Aaron Rodgers.   A man that everyone felt sorry for, a man who had huge shoes to fill.   Green Bay fans expect nothing less than perfection in the next Quarterback, something they had been used to for almost 20 years with Favre.   Aaron Rodgers, to the surprise of many, didn't let them down. In 2008 he came out swinging! His first season he threw for over 4000 yards and 28 TD passes, but the Packers had a dismal record of 6-10, this following a 13-3 showing the year before.

Fans were disappointed but pleased with the play of Aaron Rodgers and were excited for the future.  Rodgers has since gone on to 3 more great seasons including a Super Bowl win over the Pittsburgh Steelers on February 6, 2011.

I don't know what it is about Mr. Rodgers.   Why do I despise everything about him?    Did my true blue Bears pledge take over?   Did his arrogant Super Man belt celebration make me puke in my beer?  Yes, I believe those are 2 very good reasons to despise him.  I think besides his arrogant smirk and swaggy ways, the main reason I can't stand him is the fans.  Yes, those "in your face, cheese head wearing, Lambeau Leap, Favre hating" fans.  These fans have been mystified by this man more than they ever were with the ever deserving Brett Favre.   Besides the fans, all of the old ex NFL players who are now announcers and analysts, they are the ones who really make me want to yak.

Packers games are better left on mute because all of the announcers are so giddy over the guy, they can't see clearly.  Jay Cutler could throw an 80 yard TD pass and not get the same excitement from them as Rodgers does avoiding a sack because he is "so gifted".

Ron Jaworski who I respect more for his analysis of a football game more than anyone recently said about Rodgers that he is "the most physically gifted quarterback in the league."  Listen, I get it. I understand Aaron Rodgers is a very gifted quarterback but come on!

If Rodgers played one game with mediocre receivers, maybe a Sunday nail biter playing for the Cleveland Browns as they take on the Pittsburgh Steelers, in that game, he is average, not horrible, not great, just average.  Green Bay has a team built for Rodgers including receivers who make amazing moves that Rodgers gets credit for.  All I am asking you to do is watch Rodgers for what he really is, a very good quarterback with amazing receivers to throw to.  Mute out the announcers, mute out the fans and just watch.

Yes, I respect him, I will probably draft him on my fantasy football team this year, but I am a realist and one who doesn't buy into the hype.  I can't deny that Rodgers has done some amazing things, he has handled taking over for Favre with a lot of class and poise.  I just wish that everyone involved with the Packers on any level whether it be a fan or the media would get their head out of the clouds and shake off their obsessions.  Let the man prove himself for a few more years and then we can talk about what a legend he is. I don't doubt he will be a legend and I don't doubt that he might fade away, time will tell.   In the meantime, haters gonna hate, and I am one of them!
