In a surprising move, the Packers released safety Aaron Rouse today and signed safety Matt Giordano to replace him. Rouse had just started this past weak at strong safety for the Packers against the Cincinnati Bengals, taking the place of injured Atari Bigby. He was expected to remain the starter for the Packers until Bigby returned from a knee injury that would most likely keep him out a couple of weeks. Rouse was drafted by the Packers in the third round of the 2007 NFL Draft out of Virginia Tech. He played three years for the Packers, starting 10 of 27 games, recording 90 tackles and four interceptions. Giordano played for the Indianapolis Colts from 2005 to 2008 after he was drafted by them in the fourth round of the 2005 NFL Draft out of Cal. With the Colts he started 6 of 55 games and recorded 80 tackles and three interceptions. In other news, the Packers also signed offensive lineman Dane Randolph to their practice squad.
