Pittsburgh Steelers restricted free agent nose tackle Steve McLendon visited with the Green Bay Packers yesterday, according to Aaron Wilson of The Baltimore Sun. Former Steelers nose guard Steve McClendon visited the Green Bay Packers, per a league source — Aaron Wilson (@RavensInsider) April 17, 2013 The Packers have significant cap room remaining – even after signing linebacker Clay Matthews to a lucrative and long-term extension – while the Steelers do not. Green Bay could attempt to offer McLendon a deal, similarly to how the New England Patriots made Steelers wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders an offer. McLendon has been used as a backup in Pittsburgh, but most expect him to take over for Casey Hampton as the team’s nose tackle this season. Considering the Steelers have only $700k of cap space remaining, it would be hard for them to match an offer for McLendon without restructuring another deal or cutting a player.
