GREEN BAY, Wis. -- With eight practice squad spots available for general manager Ted Thompson to fill, the Packers kept seven of their own training camp players and added one other.
The new addition to Green Bays roster is former Pittsburgh Steelers offensive lineman, Chris Scott. At 6-foot-5 and 332 pounds, Scott is listed as a combination offensive tackle and guard.
Scott, 25, was a fifth-round pick by the Steelers in 2010 out of the University of Tennessee. He played in just two regular season games during his two years in Pittsburgh, spending parts of last season on the Steelers practice squad.
Two of the seven players that the Packers kept from their own training camp roster were quarterback B.J. Coleman and offensive tackle Andrew Datko, both of whom were drafted by Green Bay in the seventh round this year.
Wide receiver Diondre Borel and defensive lineman Lawrence Guy are back with the Packers practice squad for a second consecutive year. They are joined by undrafted rookie running back Marc Tyler, tight end Brandon Bostick and offensive guard Greg Van Roten.
A couple players from Green Bays training camp roster who were released during the final cut-down, wide receiver Tori Gurley and safety Anthony Levine, signed with new teams. Gurley is now a member of Minnesotas practice squad, just nine months after the Vikings offered him a spot on their 53-man active roster last season. Levine is reportedly headed to the Baltimore Ravens practice squad for this season.

GREEN BAY, Wis. -- Now that Packers general manager Ted Thompson and head coach Mike McCarthy have sorted out their 53-man roster for this season, there are still plenty of strengths from a team that finished 15-1 during the 2011 regular season. Don Barclay and Evan Dietrich-Smith are the only backup offensive linemen on the roster
GM Ted Thompson’s decision to keep only seven offensive linemen is highly unusual, but the number itself really isn’t a big deal. Remember, the Packers dressed only seven offensive linemen throughout last season. So the problem isn’t keeping only two backups. The problem is who the two backups...
GREEN BAY, Wis. -- The Packers had high expectations for Derek Sherrod when the team used its first-round pick on the Mississippi State offensive tackle in the 2011 draft.
But Sherrod's rookie season began without a starting job and ended with a broken leg. He played 115 total plays at left and right tackle as a backup before the injury in Week 15 ended his season early.
With the addition of Cedric Benson, Green Bay collected five of 12 first-place votes to rank No. 1 in the AP's Pro32 rankings
