Packer Fans United:
In the finale to the 2011 NFL regular season, the Green Bay Packers host the up-and-coming Detroit Lions. Oddsmakers have installed the Pack as 6 point underdogs -- underdogs! -- primarily because Green Bay is expected to rest many of starters throughout the course of the game and Detroit is playing to lock up the #5 seed in the NFC playoffs, which is expected to give them a more favorable playoff match up in the Wild Card game; if they drop to #6 they will likely wind up playing the Saints against whom they don't match up as well. Oh, the over-under for this game is 41.5 points. From the Packers' perspective, the goal is to get out of this game without injuries. But, they'd also like to win...just in case Detroit winds up coming back to Lambeau Field in a few weeks as part of the playoffs...you don't want to give the Lions any confidence about winning in Lambeau, where they haven't won, by the way, for the last 20 years. But let's be honest: Detroit is comin...

Source: Rodgers will play but only a little
GREEN BAY, Wis. -- If Packers coach Mike McCarthy is going to rest quarterback Aaron Rodgers on Sunday, he wasn't about to reveal that plan on Friday.
Regardless of whether Green Bay wins Sunday against Detroit in the regular-season finale, the Packers will still be the NFC's No. 1 seed and have home-field advantage until the Super Bowl.
So while there is no reason for...

Suh busts out Rodgers' belt celebration
Detroit Lions defensive tackle, Ndamukong Suh, has earned quite the reputation voted the NFL’s dirtiest player.
Suh, however, is still a dominant defensive lineman, and after a sack on Packers’ Matt Flynn, Suh did the Aaron Rodgers discount double check dance.

Matt Flynn - Green Bay Packers Starting QB Today
Green Bay Packers vs. Detroit Lions:
Here is my unfiltered game day blog post of comments, observations and first impressions.
In a game that means absolutely nothing to the Packers, Mike McCarthy resists temptation and plants Aaron Rodgers firmly on the sideline in street clothes. Hooray is all I can say. It’s a move that...
Does Flynn's big day impact Rodgers?
Right now I want to be Matt Flynn's agent. OK, he probably already has an agent but he made himself some money today. The Packers have been talking about their backup quarterback for a long time. Now, he beats the Lions on a day when Matthew Stafford throws for more than 500 yards. What a pass-happy league.
The beauty of Flynn, who is going to be a free agent, is that he sets...
Flynn throws 6 TDs, Pack beat Lions in barnburner
Backup quarterback Matt Flynn threw a touchdown pass to Jermichael Finley with 1:10 left, giving the Green Bay Packers a 45-41 victory over the Detroit Lions in a wild regular-season finale in cold and windy conditions at Lambeau Field on Sunday.
7 Awesome Stats from NFL Week 17
Week 17 of the NFL season has come and gone. Let's look back at 7 feats of statistical awesomeness.1. Green Bay quarterback MATT FLYNN set single-game franchise records by passing for 480 yards and six touchdowns in the Packers’ 45-41 win over Detroit. Making just his second career start, Flynn is the first quarterback in the Super Bowl era to pass for six touchdowns in one...
McCarthy: As Expected, Packers Will Play it Safe vs. Lions on Sunday
McCarthy wants to see all three quarterbacks play on Sunday.
Despite giving a few signs earlier in the week that his team might go full throttle after 15-1, Green Bay Packers coach Mike McCarthy confirmed Friday that the Packers will play it safe with a good chunk of his starters, including quarterback Aaron Rodgers, against the Detroit Lions.
Several key players dealing with lingering...
Nelson Shares Career Day With Flynn
It was not a good day to be a defensive back at Lambeau Field. The Packers’ receivers, led by Jordy Nelson, played a part in backup quarterback Matt Flynn’s 480-yard, six-touchdown day. Nelson's three-touchdown performance left him among the game's elite receivers.
Vandy comes up short in 31-24 loss to Cincinnati
Vanderbilt coach James Franklin had seen enough by the time Jordan Rodgers had a pass picked off in the third quarter. The coach benched Rodgers and turned to Larry Smith.
The senior had waited patiently since losing his starting job midway through the season, and he had started Vanderbilt's last bowl win in 2008. Smith threw for a season-high 142 yards and a touchdown before...
Lions suffer embarrassing loss to backup Pack
GREEN BAY, Wis. -- Packers tight end Jermichael Finley believes that Sunday's 45-41 win over Lions without Aaron Rodgers and other key starters playing will send Detroit into the playoffs "with a little limp." But Finley almost left the game with more than a little limp.
A play by Lions defensive end Cliff Avril had Finley questioning the motivations of Detroit'...
Blitz struggles concern Lions
The blitz has not been much of a weapon for the Lions this season: Packers quarterback Matt Flynn treated it like a power hitter who's been tipped off on the pitch selection — he hit home runs off it.
Season Ending NFL Power Rankings
1. Green Bay Packers, 15-1
Even without Aaron Rodgers, the Packers offense still manages to put up 45 points. Backup quarterback Matt Flynn set two franchise records with 480 passing yards and six touchdowns.
2. New Orleans Saints, 13-3
Drew Brees makes the quarterback position look way too easy. A Saints-Packers rematch in the NFC Championship Game is looking inevitable.
