In transitioning to a 3-4 defense, the Colts face multiple problems involving their personnel. One of the biggest transitions will be the roles of quarterback terrorizers Robert Mathis and Dwight Freeney. We know they will be moved to outside linebacker, but beyond that, this is unknown territory for the two. They've been hand-on-the-ground DE's for their entire career, with Freeney being the mainstay at LE since midway through 2002.  Well, recently, new head coach Chuck Pagano opened up about the role of Freeney, and it looks favorable for the three-time All-Pro. "Suggs' hand is in the dirt way more than he is standing up," Pagano said. "I'd be crazy to have those guys dropping more than rushing. If I dropped Suggs too much, they probably would have fired me midseason." According to National Football Post, Pagano estimated that Suggs dropped into coverage between five and ten percent of the time. In 2012, look for Freeney to play a similar rol...

Hughes on the hot seat

Aside from threatening to buy me a Jerry Hughes jersey, Nate Dunlevy knows that the former first round defensive end is no laughing matter: Hughes has been so bad that the only thing keeping him on the Colts' roster is that it's cheaper cap-wise to keep him than cut him. That will only save Hughes for so long, however. He has to produce, or the team will be forced to release...

Irsay hints about Colts taking Luck

It's seemed like a foregone conclusion that the Colts will take Andrew Luck with the first overall pick. Jim Irsay continues to hint that will be the case.

Defensive Personnel and the Colts Defensive Scheme in 2012

One of the most exciting prospects of new Colts Head Coach Chuck Pagano is the defensive changes he will make in Indianapolis. Much of the fan base is tired of watching a bend but don't break defensive philosophy that allows opponents to dominate time of possession and keep the ball out of Peyton Manning's hands. The rumble grew louder every year to find a way to stop the...

Winning: A Book Review

Gary Brackett's story is well known around Indianapolis, but the story you know is only part of an incredible journey from the streets of the projects to football fields of the NFL. I recently spoke with Gary about his book, and after reading it, felt it was imperative to share my thoughts. The book itself is breezy, yet powerful. It is written very much in Brackett'...

Jim Irsay ready to make a bid for another Super Bowl

The city of Indianapolis did a great job with hosting Super Bowl XLVI this past season and Colts owner Jim Irsay has indicated that he’s ready to put in another bid for a future one as well. We will most likely make another bid 4 the SupBowl in Indy at latter part of the decade..it was one of the best host/city performances ever — Jim Irsay (@JimIrsay) April 10, 2012 Irsay and...

He's just a rookie

Jim Irsay essentially said the Colts are taking Andrew Luck with the first pick of the 2012 NFL draft. Paul Kuharsky and Trent Dilfer agree that despite high expectations we all need to temper our hopes: I think that final plea is an important one, and one we’ll probably need to circle back to over and over. Even if Luck is more prepared than Troy Aikman and Peyton Manning were...

Jim Irsay believes Ryan Tannehill is a “hidden gem”

Even though Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay and his staff will likely decide to take Stanford’s Andrew Luck with the first overall pick in this year’s NFL draft, he indicated on Twitter that he believes that Ryan Tannehill of Texas A&M is a “hidden gem.” Tannehill is a hidden gem in this draft,a quiet secret who was always sneaking up to #3..you want him,you better...

Sad Redskins Fans Already Getting RG3 License Plates

C’mon, Jim Irsay! Pull the trigger on the biggest flip-flop in NFL Draft history by taking Robert Griffin III instead of Andrew Luck. Ruin the license plates that are starting to show up in and around Washington D.C. proclaiming the love for the likely new Redskins QB. Dan Steinberg at D.C. Sports Bog writes that one fan even has Luck plates on reserve just in case Irsay goes...

Andrew visiting the Colts, then the Redskins

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck is visiting with the Indianapolis Colts today and will spend some time with the Washington Redskins on Wednesday. The Colts are still expected to draft Luck first overall, but the Redskins will bring him in for a visit just in case he lands in their lap with the second overall pick.

RGIII versus Luck will go down in 2012

One way or the other, Robert Griffin III and Andrew Luck will either be the new quarterbacks of the Washington Redskins or the Indianapolis Colts and they will be playing each other this season. Both ownerships and front offices of both teams have said that they will be intent with either one. The good thing
