San Diego Chargers
SAN DIEGO -- The San Diego Chargers killed their slim hopes for a playoff berth with one of their worst performances of the season. Two touchdown passes by Carolina quarterback Cam Newton and two rushing scores by fullback Mike Tolbert boosted the Panthers to a 31-7 victory Sunday at Qualcomm Stadium. The loss officially ended San Diego's bid for the postseason. It's the third consecutive season the Chargers have missed the playoffs, meaning the job status of head coach Norv Turner, and possibly general manager A.J. Smith, is in serious jeopardy. The Chargers (5-9) scored fewer than 10 points for the third time this season. They lost 27-3 to the Atlanta Falcons on Sept. 23 and 7-6 to the Cleveland Browns on Oct. 28. The Panthers (5-9) dominated from the opening kick. They scored on their first three possessions, taking advantage of the Chargers' poor play and ineffectiveness on both sides of the ball, and coasted the rest of the way. Carolina outgained the Char...
BEST OF MAXIM
The San Diego Chargers have placed wide receiver Malcolm Floyd, running back Ryan Mathews and tackle Reggie Wells on the season-ending Reserve-Injured List, the team announced Tuesday. The three players were injured during the Chargers' home loss to the Carolina Panthers last Sunday. Floyd suffered an ankle injury after starting the first 14 games, catching 56 passes for...
The holiday season is, once again, upon us, presumably leading NFL fans everywhere to ponder what their favorite team(s) might be hoping for next season.1. For the sake of redundancy, I will lump the obvious ones together: an improved offensive line, a new general manager who does not subscribe to A.J. Smith's end-of-season-fire-sale mentality; and a head coach who isn't...
Per Rob Kelley of the Pigskin Report, San Diego Chargers running back Ryan Mathews is out for the rest of the season with a broken left clavicle. This was not the same injury he sustained during the preseason, where he broke his right clavicle. This is just the latest injury for Mathews who has been plagued by numerous injuries during his short three year career. Since 2010, Mathews...
Poor Norv can't even buy a vowel when that's all that remains in the puzzle.
The San Diego Chargers are a team in a state of flux currently, but one of the biggest question marks surrounding the team is whether or not RB Ryan Mathews is a NFL caliber running back. Mathews was selected by the Chargers as the heir-apparent replacement for LaDainian Tomlinson, after the club moved up in the draft to select him. He came with an impressive resume, but he is now...
The San Diego Chargers have ruled linebacker Demorrio
Williams out for today’s contest against the Carolina Panthers, while running
back Ronnie Brown is doubtful and wide receiver Eddie Royal is questionable.
Brown didn’t practice all week after suffering a hamstring
injury during last weekend’s victory against the Pittsburgh Steelers. The
backup running back, who’s...
San Diego Chargers running back Ryan Mathews broke his left
clavicle during yesterday’s loss to the Carolina Panthers and will be out for
the remainder of the season, reports Michael Gehlken of the U-T San Diego.
Ryan Mathews broke his left clavicle. Broke right clavicle in preseason. Out for year.

Michael Gehlken reports that Chargers RB Ryan Mathews is done for the season after he suffered a broke his right collarbone during Sunday’s loss to the Panthers.
This is the second time he’s broken his collarbone this season, all be it this time it was the other side.
Mathews’ 2012 season has been as disappointing as any, and there’s certain to be question about his future...
Ryan Mathews went down with his second broken collarbone of the season. That means the running back situation in San Diego is opened up. Their stable includes Curtis Brinkley, Jackie Battle, and Ronnie Brown. After Mathews went down last week Brinkley was the most productive of the group. He tallied 6 carries for 42 yards [...]
The Carolina Panthers "Chargers East" embarrassed the San Diego Chargers, 31-7 on Sunday. San Diego has been on a downward spiral since the week six Monday Night Football "double-header" versus Denver by losing to Cleveland, Tampa Bay, Denver (again), Baltimore, and Cincinnati. The team has only bested Kansas City (really, who hasn't), and, frankly, surprised...
SAN DIEGO - In a season of lows, the Chargers hit their lowest point Sunday. In one of their worst performances, San Diego lost out on its slim chance for a playoff berth after being pounded by the Carolina Panthers 31-7. "We did a great job of starting fast and getting in a groove of things very early," said quarterback Cam Newton, who completed 19 of 33 passes for...
We’ve known all along that Carolina Panthers’ quarterback Cam Newtown is a physical specimen. We saw him dazzle throughout his rookie season and fill up the stat sheet like few quarterbacks, let alone rookies, ever do.
But for much of this season, the ex-Auburn Tiger, Heisman Trophy recipient, National Champion, and NFL Rookie of the Year, struggled mightily as his highly touted...
The Carolina Panthers will play against the San Diego Chargers on Sunday. Scheduled for a 4:05 pm EST kickoff this game will air on FOX from Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego.
Both teams could look quite different next season. Reports suggest that Chargers coach Norv Turner is set to be fired along with general manager AJ Smith. The Panthers have already made a move to replace their...
There are no more false hopes surrounding the hapless San Diego Chargers.
Done in by Mike Tolbert, one of the many players authoritarian general manager A.J. Smith has allowed to leave over the years, the Chargers were eliminated from playoff contention for the third straight year in a dismal 31-7 loss to the Carolina Panthers on Sunday.
The Chargers (5-9) clinched their first...
