Panthers Dump Running Back Rotation, Name Jonathan Stewart Their Feature Back -
Carolina head coach Ron Rivera elaborated on his backfield plans, making it clear that Week 8 starter Jonathan Stewart will get a chance to develop the “hot hand” in Carolina. “I want to see one guy pound and get a rhythm, then see the other guy pound and get a rhythm,” Rivera said. “To me it’s hard for a back to get a rhythm when you’re coming out every other play.” Rivera expressed that DeAngelo Williams was out of the game plan altogether last week, but also told the veteran that “under the circumstances, we’re trying to do something right now … We want to find out who’s going to be hot and go with him.” In other words, it’s Stewart’s job to lose.
