The Panthers did not make the postseason in Ron Rivera's first year, but they will have a say in what the NFC playoffs look like.
BEST OF MAXIM
The Panthers have lost 28-year old WR Legedu Naanee for the rest of the season due to a broken foot. Naanee played in 15 games for the Panthers this year and he caught 44 passes for 467 yards (10.6 avg) with 1 TD grab. He has now played in 69 games in his first five years in the NFL and he has caught 107 passes for 1,213 yards (11.3 avg) with 4 TD grabs. Brandon LaFell will...
Panthers wide receiver Legedu Naanee broke a small bone in his right foot during Saturday's 48-16 win over Tampa Bay and is done for the season.
Naanee started 10 games this season for the Panthers, with 44 receptions for 467 yards and one touchdown.
Coach Ron Rivera says the injury occurred as Naanee was trying to stretch for a touchdown and his foot got stuck in the grass...
So far, Carolina Panthers rookie Cam Newton has live up to the hype of the number one overall draft pick. This season, he broke rookie records for rushing touchdowns and passing yards by a rookie quarterback.
However, the most impressive thing he did over Christmas weekend was this 49-yard run against the Tampa Bay Bucs:
Actions speak louder than words and in Cam Newton’s case his body language during the fourth quarter of games speaks volumes. So much so that two of his teammates felt the need to talk to him about it. Ever get a bank account boner? Let me paint a picture for you. Imagine buying Cam Newton’s game-worn BCS pants before Newton is even drafted. You spend $1,500 and are instantly called a “f-ing moron.” Then the guy is drafted #1 overall and then goes out and accounts for 34 Panthers’ TDs. Rookie of the Year, rookie records destroyed, blah, blah, blah. But then the guy shows...
It's debatable if Cam Newton is the best rookie ever, but it cannot be argued that team owner Jerry Richardson and the Panthers nailed it when they took Newton with the first pick in last year's draft.
With a three-day Christmas break and a 48-16 victory against Tampa Bay, the Carolina Panthers have plenty to celebrate as they roll into the final week of their season.
After clinching third place in the NFC South by virtue of their 48-16 blowout of Tampa Bay, the Panthers' 2012 schedule is pretty well set.
Besides divisional games, the NFC South will be paired with the NFC East and AFC West next season. The Panthers also will face the third-place teams from the NFC North (Chicago) and NFC West (the winner of Sunday's Arizona-Seattle game...
Rookie quarterbacks Cam Newton of the Carolina Panthers and Andy Dalton of the Cincinnati Bengals were both selected first alternates for the Pro Bowl.
