Carolina Panthers linebacker Jon Beason had a minor surgical procedure Tuesday on his Achilles tendon that could jeopardize his availability for the season opener, the Gaston Gazette reported Wednesday.
Beason has yet to practice in training camp. The surgery will push back his progress one week, the report said.
The Panthers open the season Sept. 11 at Arizona and have spent the offseason rebuilding their defense around Beason, who has never missed a game in four seasons while amassing at least 120 tackles every year.
