The Panthers offense was expected to be their strong suit this season.
That hasn't happened.
Second-year quarterback Cam Newton and the Panthers enter Sunday's game against the Dallas Cowboys ranked 23rd in the NFL in offense and 25th in points scored. That's a far cry from last season when the surprising Panthers finished seventh in total offense and fifth in points scored.
Wide receiver Steve Smith says the Panthers have spent too much time ''middling around'' on offense and played ''lethargic'' - something that he said needs to change soon.
Smith says, ''there's a long laundry list of things we can get better at'' on offense.
However, the Panthers (1-4) face another stiff challenge this week in the Cowboys, who've allowed the second-fewest yards in the league.

We know of Steve Smith as one of the game’s best receivers over the past decade. We also know of him for his horrifying hair-trigger temper and his propensity to indiscriminately punch teammates as well as the occasional baby. But Steve Smith has also done things like donate $100,000 to the families of victims of the Colorado theater shooting. He’s a complex, misunderstood, frightening...
The season-ending Lisfranc injury to center Ryan Kalil has led to a number of roster changes as the Panthers try to fill the massive shoes left by the three-time Pro Bowler. After signing Thomas Austin last Thursday, the team cut guard Bryant Browning from the practice squad and added tackle Ray Dominguez. Browning, who was undrafted out of Ohio State in 2011, spent the majority...
Panthers lose Kalil, sign Austin Pro Bowl center Ryan Kalil, who took out a full-page ad guaranteeing a Panthers Super Bowl victory in July, was placed on the season-ending IR after suffering a Lisfranc injury in last Sunday's 16-12 loss to the Seattle Seahawks. This is a devastating loss to a Carolina running game that had been struggling WITH Kalil snapping the ball. Head coach...
(via espn.com)Panthers WR Steve Smith has a reputation for having a bit of a temper. His fierce competitive nature has made him one of the best receivers in the NFL, but it’s also led to a history of fights — including several with his own teammates, with Smith sending members of his own team to the hospital on three separate occasions. So ESPN’s E:60 decided to do a profile...
Panthers linebacker Jon Beason and cornerback Chris Gamble missed practice Thursday, and coach Ron Rivera said he is most certainly concerned about their status.
Beason has been dealing with a knee injury while Gamble aggravated a shoulder injury during Wednesday's practice.
Both sat out the Week 5 loss to Seattle. The hope was that both would be ready to go following...
If you ever wanted to know what Carolina Panthers RB DeAngelo Williams would look like wearing onesie PJ’s, you’re in luck.

(Eds: Updates. With AP Photos.) By STEVE REED AP Sports Writer Panthers coach Ron Rivera isn't buying into the idea the season is over.
Rivera believes the Panthers (1-4) are close to turning things around, and that coaches and players need to improve if they're to make a run at the playoffs.
Rivera said the coaching staff spent a portion of the bye weekend self-scouting...
A lot has been said about Cam Newton’s mental state this season. After lighting up the stat sheet and breaking a number of records as a rookie last season, Newton has taken a step back this year and the Panthers have followed. A Carolina team that many thought had a legitimate shot to make the playoffs is off to a 1-4 start, and many wonder if Newton’s head being in the wrong...
Self evaluation and looking in the mirror allows all of us as people to find some clarity in our lives. ESPN is reporting that after a bye week filled with rest, self-evaluation, and talking to his father, Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton is ready to lead his team. “God gives only a few people opportunities [...]

We are nearly two weeks away from the NFL’s halfway mark.
There have already been several teams and players that have certainly turned in disappointing returns based on what we knew of them or what was expected of them.
Certain situations such as the Dallas Cowboys were not included because they are expected to let their fans down. Therefore, being a disappointment is not disappointing...
