It is one of those preseasons that makes me wonder if I should be excited or depressed.
Case in point…. Fan Fest in Charlotte. Cam Newton throws a perfect spiral 40 yards to David Clowney for a TD. Wow, how exciting was that. I felt like standing up and hugging the man with the Clausen jersey and fanny pack sitting behind me. Then it hit me… David Clowney just blew past two of our first string defensive backs. Ouch.
Not to knock Clowney, but he isn’t Roddy White is he? He isn’t the second coming of Jerry Rice. Clowney is a journeyman that is not a starter in this league. A journeyman that just torched us for a TD.
This reminded me of last preseason, when the Panthers offense could not muster a first down. We all thought to ourselves, hell its only preseason – it will get better.
It didn’t.
