The Carolina Panthers have re-signed defensive end Antwan Applewhite, a league source confirmed on Thursday. Terms were not disclosed. Originally signed by the San Diego Chargers as an undrafted free agent out of San Diego State in 2007, Applewhite started 13 of 31 games for the Chargers between the 2008-10 seasons, totaling 68 tackles and 3.5 sacks before signing with the San Francisco 49ers in 2011. Released by the 49ers, Applewhite re-joined former Chargers defensive coordinator Ron Rivera, who was in his first season with the Panthers. In 12 games, including one starts, Applewhite had 19 tackles and two sacks, with a forced fumble and a safety while playing in 32 percent of the defensive snaps.
