NFL Trade Rumors:
The Carolina Panthers announced that they have signed FB Richie Brockel to a two-year contract and OG Garry Williams to a one-year deal on Monday.
Brockel, 27, has started in just two games, and has appeared in 43 games for the Panthers. Brockel played just 166 snaps last season and in large part was a liability according to ProFootball Focus. Williams, also 27, suffered a season-ending knee injury during the team’s season opener as a starter at right guard.
The low risk signings by the Panthers provide some depth and competition for the offseason. Brockel was slated to become a restricted free agent and Williams was set to become an unrestricted free agent before signing.

In 2013, the Carolina Panthers had quite the imbalance of offensive tackles. On the left side, stalwart Jordan Gross earned a Pro Bowl berth for his performance throughout the season. At right tackle, Byron Bell was among the league’s worst offensive line starters. With Gross now retired, many would contend that offensive tackle is the biggest deficiency on the Carolina roster...

Nobody really expected the Carolina Panthers to do too much on the first day of NFL free agency, coming in with limited cap space. Perhaps the biggest news surrounding Carolina Tuesday was that wide receiver Steve Smith was neither cut nor traded. While the Panthers sat idle, their NFC South rivals were getting better:

It's a big task, but Steve Smith's replacement might be incoming.
It's been two years since Carolina Panthers' fans first began salivating over the idea of Hakeem Nicks returning to Charlotte, now that could be a reality.

At least Smith can find humor in his situation.
In lieu of NFL releasing news of the Panthers trading Steve Smith, fans have come together in efforts to save agent 89. T-shirts have been made in those efforts and it appears the Steve Smith caught wind of it. If the Panthers choose to stay with Smith, we know the fans have a huge role in making that happen.
Carolina Panthers wide receiver Steve Smith had a funny reaction to these "Save Steve Smith" t-shirts.

When I saw it come across the board the Steelers signed a safety, I had to double check something.
Mike Mitchell… wasn’t that the guy the Raiders took in round two several years ago, and the entire ESPN staff essentially said “who?”
I was correct. Many had him as a very late pick at best. None of that matters now though, I’ve been doing some digging to try to find out more...
