Photo via Getty NFL linebackers are badass mofos. This much we know. Still, it’s always a good reminder to understand what some of these guys play with and through in terms of pain and injuries. Case in point: Thomas Davis. Davis is an outside linebacker on the Carolina Panthers. The former first round pick out of Georgia is a team captain. He leads the Panthers in (solo) tackles and is having a damn splendid season. He also played all of this past Sunday’s win against the Miami Dolphins with a dislocated finger that popped through the skin.MAYBE WE SHOULD REPEAT THAT ONE. According to the Charlotte Observer: Carolina Panthers linebacker Thomas Davis dislocated his finger early in the first quarter on Sunday against the Miami Dolphins, and the injury was so bad that it broke the skin and required stitches. Still, Davis didn’t miss any of the Panthers’ 63 defensive snaps. I occasionally get a paper cut that renders me incapacitated for what might amount to the duration of a typical NFL play. Davis, on the other hand, dislocated a digit that is pretty much in use on every down of a professional football game — and then proceeded to play the rest of the game. For anyone curious, he finished with six tackles and a sack. I’ll be sure to suck it up on my next unfortunate bagel cutting nick.
