NFL Injury Report:
The New York Giants and Carolina Panthers have agreed to a trade that would send linebacker Jon Beason to New York in exchange for a late-round draft pick, according to NFL.com's Chris Wesseling. The deal is pending the result of Beason's physical, which he will take Friday when he flies up to New York.Given Beason's track record with injuries, it is not a forgone conclusion that he will pass his physical, but if he does, he will be a Giant. The three-time Pro Bowl linebacker did not miss a game in his first four seasons, but has only played in seven games since tearing his Achillies tendon in Week 1 of the 2011 season. In the first two games of the season, Beason was splitting reps at linebacker with ex-Giant and unsung hero of Super Bowl XLVI, Chase Blackburn. Beason played just one snap in their Week 3 matchup with the Giants before being benched in favor of Blackburn. The Giants are taking a risk on Beason, whose on-field production has been limited by injuries the past couple of years, but with an 0-4 record and leading the NFL in points allowed, they had no choice but to take advantage of the opportunity to make a move that could potentially upgrade their linebacking core. The G-men are only giving up a late-round pick for Beason, so if he doesn't pan out, it shouldn't hurt them too much moving forward. Unless of course, the Panthers find a diamond in the rough of the later rounds of next year's draft. Trade for Panthers: There was a time when Jon Beason was one of the better middle linebackers in football and he was given a 5 year, 50 million dollar deal with 25 million guaranteed after the 2010 season, but he missed 28 of 32 games in 2011 and 2012 with injuries and, even at just 28 years old, those injuries have sapped his ability.
