The Carolina Panthers have waived injured cornerback Brandon Hogan. Hogan, who was selected in the fourth round of the 2011 draft, had been on injured reserve. The Panthers took a gamble on Hogan after he tore his ACL late in his final season at West Virginia. Hogan had surgery but didn't have the benefit of working with Carolina's trainers during the lockout-shortened 2011 offseason and missed most of his rookie year. The knee issues lingered into this season and he wound up on IR again. The 2011 draft is looking like a giant flop for the Panthers aside from No. 1 overall pick Cam Newton. The Panthers have already released third-round pick Terrell McClain and sixth-rounder Lawrence Williams, while seventh-round selection Lee Ziemba was suspended recently by the NFL for four games.

D-Willy On The Trade Block

I could be on the move Juan… The trade deadline has been moved back to Thursday, so there will be a couple of extra days to pull the trigger on a trade.  DeAngelo Williams is another player that could on the trade block.  The Panthers have already made a commitment to make Jonathan Stewart the starter, so getting value for D-Will will be helpful to a team that has a ton of holes...

Teams Have Contacted The Panthers About Steve Smith, But Carolina Has Turned Down Offers

Jay Glazer of FOX Sports reports that NFL teams have made calls to the Carolina Panthers to see if WR Steve Smith is available, but they’re reportedly not interested in trading him. Smith, 33, actually has a reasonable amount of money left on his contract, so there’s a chance that the Panthers could have received a decent draft pick in return for him. Smith will make $3.75...
