The Kansas City Chiefs and Cincinnati Bengals have one of the fiercest rivalries in the NFL among teams who aren’t in the same division. They have played each other in multiple high-stakes playoff games over the past three seasons and have an animosity for each other that makes each game that much more exciting. NFL fans will not have to wait long for these two teams to face each other in the 2024 NFL season.

According to Ari Meirov on social media , the Kansas City Chiefs will host rival Cincinnati Bengals in Week 2 of the 2024 NFL season.

The last time Mahomes and Burrow played each other was in the 2023 AFC Championship. Kansas City defeated Cincinnati 23-20 in that game and advanced to the Super Bowl. The Chiefs ultimately defeated the Philadelphia Eagles to win their second Lombardi Trophy of the Mahomes era at that time.

Prior to that game, Burrow and the Bengals had defeated the Chiefs in their last three contests. This included the 2022 AFC Championship which sent Cincinnati to the Super Bowl for the first time since 1989. They were ultimately defeated 23-20 by the Matthew Stafford-led Los Angeles Rams.

The Chiefs and Bengals played each other late in the 2023 regular season. However, the rivalry did not have the usual flare and excitement. Joe Burrow had already gone down with a wrist injury in Week 11 and declared out for the rest of the season. The Bengals played well without Burrow down the stretch, but his injury ended their season. Cincinnati was not a threat to make the postseason and lost to the Chiefs 25-17 in their matchup on New Years Eve.

NFL fans will have to wait just over four months for the next chapter of this spicy AFC rivalry.

This is not the only nugget we’ve received this week about the Chiefs’ 2024 schedule.

Yesterday we learned that the Chiefs will open the 2024 regular season against the Baltimore Ravens. Both teams are AFC contenders, but they haven’t faced each other as much recently when compared to the Chiefs/Bengals rivalry. Most recently, the Chiefs beat the Ravens 17-10 in the 2024 AFC Championship game. Despite the low score, it was an incredible game that highlighted each team’s strong defense and ability to control the clock.

Prior to the AFC Championship, the last time the Chiefs played the Ravens was a Week 2 matchup in 2021 where the Ravens won 36-35. The Chiefs entered the fourth quarter with an 11-point lead but gave up 12 unanswered points, both of which were Lamar Jackson TD runs with failed two-point conversions.

The Chiefs have a tough schedule in 2024. Aside from their expected divisional games, the Chiefs face off against each team in the AFC North (Ravens, Browns, Steelers, Bengals) and NFC South (Buccaneers, Saints, Falcons, Panthers). They will also play the Houston Texans, Buffalo Bills, and San Francisco 49ers.

The complete NFL schedule will drop on Wednesday May 15th. It is one of the last tentpole events on the NFL schedule before things quiet down during the summer.
