Patrick Peterson is a 6'1 219 pound athlete who astounded many NFL scouts at every one of his outings. At the combine he ran a remarkable 4.34 in his 40-yard dash time, had a 38-inch vertical, amazing footwork and 15 bench presses of 225 pounds. Combine output that puts him into one of the most elite athletes in the last 3-5 years and drawing comparisons to Ed Reed and Nnamdi Asomugha. Why is one of the top 3 prospects in the draft being projected going as low as 5th to 11th overall?
Peterson's position is at cornerback, a position in which has never been drafted 1st or 2nd overall in the history of the NFL draft. Bruce Pickens of Nebraska went as the third pick in 1991 to Atlanta, and Ohio State's Shawn Springs was also the third overall pick in 1997 to Seattle. Those cornerbacks must haunt GMs to select a cornerback so high in drafts still. The only defensive back taken with the first pick was Safety Gary Glick of Colorado A&M by Pittsburgh in 1956.
