Patriots bailed out by wild call in fourth quarter of game against Steelers
Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

The New England Patriots got REALLY lucky during the fourth quarter of their Thursday Night matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

After coming up with a major stop at a pivotal point in the game, the Steelers were forced to punt. The unit took the field and lined up ready to go.

But things went crazy after Jahlani Tavai appeared to jump offsides. That would have awarded the Steelers with a first down.

Pittsburgh began celebrating and Tavai along with the rest of the Patriots team looked upset, believing that they had just given them a huge first down.

But instead, the official put an end to the Steelers happiness, calling an offsides on Christian Kuntz

Nobody could believe the call.

And that included the Patriots.

The Steelers were forced to punt, but the Patriots didn't fair much better. They punted the ball straight back into the hands of Pittsburgh who attempted to charge down the field with time ticking off the clock. It all came down to a crucial fourth down conversion, but Mitch Trubisky's pass was incomplete.

This was a very controversial call at a crucial moment of the game, helping the Patriots, while hurting the Steelers in a make-or-break game.
