The New England Patriots have cut return man Leon Washington.
Washington got a $360,000 signing bonus when he joined the Patriots but the club feels the 31-year-old has lost a step. A lost fumble in the Patriots preseason finale did not help his chances of remaining with the team.
A team or two figures to give Washington a look now that he is a free agent but the days of being an elite return man are long gone.
Washington has returned eight kickoffs for touchdowns in his career, including one last year.

Jamie McDonald/Getty Images Good news is present for New England Patriots fans and the news involves a key piece of the offense. Tight end Rob Gronkowski was at practice today in full pads for the first time since undergoing multiple forearm surgeries and one surgery on his back this offseason. It is still not realistic to expect Gronkowski to be ready when the Patriots open up...
FOXBORO, Mass. — The window of Patriots practice open to the media is over and three Patriots players were not spotted.
Leon Washington, Will Svitek and Marquice Cole, all of whom were not cut on Saturday afternoon, were not out on the Gillette Stadium practice field to begin the session. There were five players spotted that are not on the Patriots’ roster. They were in uniform...
Tim Tebow‘s time with the Patriots came to an end on Saturday afternoon when the team announced they had released the quarterback.
Throughout an up-and-down preseason, Tebow seemed to be making strides with the Patriots offense, but the improvements he made ultimately weren’t enough as he was let go by his third team in 18 months.
His play on the field may have been inconsistent...
The Patriots are continuing an aggressive offseason of cuts and waiver moves with a recent contract restructuring of Michael Hoomanawanui's contract. According to ESPNBoston, Hoo-Man was set to earn $1.3 million in base salary this year; however, with the new contract, he will be most likely receiving less than that.
The new contract is set at $630,000 as a base, with incentives...
Zoltan Mesko was not out of a job for long.
The charismatic punter, who was a surprising cut by the Patriots on Sunday, has signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers, the team announced Monday. Pittsburgh also released incumbent punter Drew Butler, clearing the way for Mesko to start in the Steel City.
Mesko, the first specialist taken in the 2010 NFL draft, had been the Patriots’ starting...
The Patriots entered the morning with 10 offensive linemen and only four cornerbacks. That doesn't make a ton of sense. They've made some moves to correct that today.

This of course after releasing Marquice Cole just yesterday. This should have Patriots fans more at...
The Patriots, just like any team around the NFL, had to make some tough cuts on Saturday. Now that they’re down to the 53-man limit heading into the season, the discussion has switched over, at least momentarily, to the practice squad.
Each NFL team has eight spots to fill on their practice squad, giving teams like the Patriots opportunities to take extended look at players who...
We're all going to miss Zoltan Mesko, the most interesting man in the NFL
Happy to hear that the only Patriots punter I ever cared about has now found a new job. With the AFC rival Steelers.
Former Pats P Zoltan Mesko, cut the other day, will be signing with the Steelers today.

Should make for a semi-interesting storyline...
The loss of one may be the gain of the many.
The Patriots cut veteran quarterback Tim Tebow on Saturday, but it may have been at the expense of keeping Rob Gronkowski active.
Gronkowski will start the regular season on the Patriots’ 53-man roster, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, which is another positive sign in his recovery from offseason back surgery.
Gronk underwent four...

Patriots will carry TE Rob Gronkowski on their 53-man roster and not place him on PUP, per league sources.

With Gronk likely on track to be back at the end of September, it made sense for the Pats to keep...
