One of the new Pats has already found himself on the PUP list, as the team has put defensive lineman Shaun Ellis has been placed on the active/physically unable to perform list, according to a league source.
Ellis was not ready to practice upon signing with the team on Monday. He can resume practicing at any time and still counts against the 90-man roster limit while he is on the active/PUP list. If Ellis does not resume practicing by the final cut-down to 53 players, the team would have the option of placing Ellis on the reserve/physically unable to perform list, which would sideline him for at least the first six weeks of the regular season.
