MVN:
As thoughts on Monday night's game continue to roll through my head, I am aware of many things that should concern me, yet I am still just happy for Brady ending the game standing up and doing what he has done well so many times before. Oh yes, and the win, baby! Gotta love the W's! Especially against an AFC East division opponent.
Sure the offensive line could have protected Brady better and the running game never was really established, and Brady overthrew the receivers too many times and of course there were a few drops. But Ben Watson (the same known as great athleticism but stone hands) came through in the tight end to win the game for the Patriots.
You could see these same areas repeating themselves versus the next division game versus the Jets this weekend. The Jets' defense has improved through the loins of Buddy Ryan, giving New York, Rex Ryan, as the newest head coach of the Jets in recent years.
Our offense as it is now versus the revamped Jest defense will be interesting and provide Patriot Nation with an overview of where the Patriots stand after facing to divisional teams in the first two weeks of the season. 2 and 0? I hope so!
So far after week two the worst the Pats will be is one and one. But heading into the season, most believe another 2007 was upon us and 19-0 here we go. It is safe to say after Monday that is no longer the case. An impressive win against the Jets will revive the undefeated mantra, a loss will send Patriot Nation into dispair.
One reason to be concerned is losing linebacker Jerod Mayo for an undisclosed period of time (rumors range from not serious, to 3-6 weeks), and Bill Belichick comments it is not a season ending injury...
A few of the ESPN announcers joked with Tedy Bruschi before the game and asked him if he would he head to the locker room to suit up if he was called. Bruschi said no, but I am sure he kept looking at his cell phone during the second half of the game....
The defensive line looked appalling, but I think this is due to Gary Guyton not sure of the play calling rather than preparation. Plus Guyton seemed to be confused on the short passes underneath and this is how Fred Jackson was able to do so well against the Pats, but at least in the air and not on the ground.
This week the Patriots will be able to work on getting Guyton up to speed and as always Belichick and Dean Pees should have more than a few items to confuse rookie quarterback Mark Sanchez.
In the meantime, the defensive back actually stepped up last game and did well enough tackling that I was amazed this was the same group from the preseason. To do that AND contain the amazing TOe was better than expected.
I think this game like the game versus the Bills, will come down to turnovers and special teams. I think the Patriots have the edge now that they are viewed as being suspect and will come together more as a team on defense now that Mayo is down. That and facing a rookie QB helps.
In case you are wondering the Jets are so worried about losing they are taking extreme measures by comparing the game to the Super Bowl. I am sorry for Rex and his team, but if that is the type of motivation they need to win football games, then the Patriots will surely beat them. (and don't call me Shirley).
IN BILL WE TRUST!!
