The New England Patriots have placed wide receiver Julian
Edelman on season-ending injured reserve due to a foot injury he suffered
against the Miami Dolphins last weekend, reports Michael Whitmer of the Boston
“He’s worked hard. Julian is a solid, solid guy,” coach Bill
Belichick said on a conference call. “He works hard, very good conditioned
athlete. He’s versatile and he’s done a number of different things for us.”
Edelman sustained a concussion during the Patriots’
Thanksgiving contest against the New York Jets, but he was able to return and
suit up for the team’s matchup with the Dolphins. However, the wide receiver sustained a foot injury during Sunday’s game against Miami and was seen
afterward sporting a walking boot.
Not only was Edelman a key part of the Patriots’ passing
game this season, but he also played a large role on special teams. The wide
receiver averaged 15.5 yards per punt return this year.
Edelman is in the final year of the contract he signed with
the Patriots as a rookie. He’ll become an
unrestricted free agent following the season.
