Patriots-Jets Injury Report: Marcus Jones Out Again? - Injury Tracker
Eric Canha-USA TODAY Sports

SEPT. 21 PATRIOTS, JETS RELEASE SECOND INJURY REPORT FOR WEEK 3 - The New England Patriots and the New York Jets have announced the following player injuries and practice participation from Thursday's sessionS.

New England was once again without the services of cornerback Marcus Jones, who continues to deal with a shoulder injury. Having missed two practices this week, Jones' status for Sunday's matchup with the Jets is in considerable question. In addition to his duties on defense, Jones serves as the Patriots top return option, both on kicks and punts.

Reserve offensive lineman Sidy Sow, who was a limited participant during Wednesday's session, did not suit up for Thursday's practice -- also placing his chances of playing in Week 3 in jeopardy.

SEPT. 20 PATRIOTS, JETS RELEASE FIRST INJURY REPORT OF WEEK 3 - The New England Patriots (0-2) and the New York Jets (1-1) have announced their player injuries and practice participation for Wednesday.

The Pats and Jets are set for an 1 p.m. kickoff for their Week 3 matchup from MetLife Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Starting left tackle Trent Brown and reserve lineman Sidy Sow returned to the field, after spending the entirety of the previous week out of action while in concussion protocol. Cornerback Jonathan Jones was also back at practice, after missing the Patriots 24-17 Week 2 loss to the Miami Dolphins with an ankle injury.

Among New England's notable absences were reserve cornerback Marcus Jones, who suffered a shoulder injury against the Dolphins, and defensive tackle Davon Godchaux, who was not present presumedly due to both he and his fiancé celebrating the birth of their child on Tuesday.

Defensive lineman Christian Barmore was a first-time addition to the Pats report, listed with a knee injury. Barmore played on 28 snaps (44 percent) for New England's defense on Sunday night.

SEPT 19 PATRIOTS TRENT BROWN, SIDY SOW, JONATHAN JONES BACK AT PRACTICE - As the New England Patriots begin their preparations for a crucial Week 3 matchup with the New York Jets in East Rutherford, NJ on Sunday, they are welcoming back a much-needed trio of players to practice on Wednesday.

New England, however, did have two notable absences. Reserve cornerback Marcus Jones, who suffered a shoulder injury during last Sunday night's loss to the Dolphins, was absent from the session. Defensive tackle Davon Godchaux was also not present, presumedly due to both he and his fiancé celebrating the birth of their child on Tuesday.

Both the Patriots and the Jets will issue their first injury and practice participation report of the Week on Wednesday afternoon at approximately 4 p.m. ET.

SEPT. 15 PATRIOTS' CB JONATHAN JONES DEALING WITH ANKLE INJURY - The New England Patriots and the Miami Dolphins have announced their player injuries and practice participation for Friday.

The Pats and Dolphins are set for an 8:20 p.m. kickoff for their Week 2 matchup from Gillette Stadium on Sunday night.

Though he was a limited participant during Thursday's practice, starting cornerback Jonathan Jones missed Friday's session. He is officially listed as 'questionable' for Sunday's matchup. Other notables on the list include four offensive linemen, two of which (Trent Brown, Sidy Sow) remain in concussion protocol.

Center David Andrews, who had been a limited participant on Wednesday and Thursday, was removed from the report, indicating that he will be available to play against the Dolphins.

In addition to Pats' offensive linemen Trent Brown and Sidy Sow being absent for the second straight day, cornerback Jonathan Jones was a new addition as a limited participant due to an ankle injury. Jones’ injury is worth monitoring, as he factors prominently into the team’s plans to defend Dolphins’ receiver Tyreek Hill.

SEPT 13 NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS, MIAMI DOLPHINS RELEASE INITIAL WEEK 2 INJURY REPORT The New England Patriots (0-1) and the Miami Dolphins (1-0) have announced the following player injuries and practice participation.

In anticipation of their Week 2 matchup this Sunday night at Gillette Stadium, the Patriots listed seven players, including a pair of offensive linemen which were absent from practice.

Veteran left tackle Trent Brown and rookie Sidy Sow did not participate in Wednesday's practice, held indoors at Socios Fieldhouse, due to being in concussion protocol. It remains unclear when each player sustained his respective injury. However, until further notice, each of their status for Sunday's game is in significant doubt.

Starting guards Michael Onwenu (ankle) and Cole Strange (knee) were also listed as limited participants, along with center David Andrews who was also limited due to a hamstring injury.

SEPT 13 PATRIOTS MOVE PRACTICE INDOORS, TRENT BROWN ABSENT? With inclement weather already causing significant flooding throughout the southern part of the region, another batch of heavy rain forced the New England Patriots indoors to the Socios Fieldhouse for Wednesday's practice.

Still, that was not the "biggest" story of the afternoon.

Despite the Pats looking stylish donning their red practice jerseys and white 'Pat Patriot' throwback helmets, starting left tackle Trent Brown was conspicuous by his absence in the Pats first session in preparation for their Week 2 contest against the Miami Dolphins (1-0) on Sunday Night Football.

The 6-8, 380-pound veteran lineman is a massive presence for the Pats at the position; both literally and figuratively. Brown played every offensive snap during New England's 25-20 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in their season-opener. Brown was also limited during one practice last Wednesday due to an illness. However, he was removed from the injury report on Thursday and remained a full participant for the remainder of the week.

The Patriots already have their share of injury concerns along the offensive line, with both left guard Michael Onwenu (ankle) and right guard Cole Strange (knee) remaining sidelined for Week 1. The injuries forced two rookies - Sidy Sow and Atonio Mafi - to start last week's game, in which the Pats rushed for only 76 yards on 22 carries.

The Patriots and Dolphins are expected to furnish their first injury and practice participation report on Wednesday afternoon, at which time more information regarding Brown's absence may be made available.

SEPT. 13 ANTONIO BROWN WANTS BACK IN NFL - The Pittsburgh Steelers find themselves shorthanded after Week 1 as wide receiver Diontae Johnson will be out multiple weeks with a hamstring injury. Enter ... Patriots ex Antonio Brown?!

It's another silly/sad chapter in Brown's troubled post-NFL career, but here we are. At age 35 - and admittedly, in his days with the Steelers maybe the best receiver in the game - Brown is reduced to silly attention-getting stunts (not to mention very serious legal entanglements and concerns about mental and emotional stability).

"Heard the Steelers need a WR………..," said the former All-Pro Brown on social media ... which would be funny if it wasn't so sad.

JULY 29 SON OF BELICHICK INJURY New England Patriots safeties coach Brian Belichick - the son of head coach Bill Belichick - suffered a "significant" knee injury during this offseason, so he won't be an on-field presence for the team during camp for a while.

The team says he he will be involved in meetings as he recovers. Belichick, 31, began his career with the Patriots in 2016 by joining the scouting department. Brian is one of two of Belichick boys who work as assistants with their dad, as Stephen Belichick, 36, is the team's outside linebackers coach.

JULY 5 AB BALONEY Antonio Brown could probably use a bit of good, clean fun in his life. So we will forgive him for "breaking a story'' on himself in such a trolling way ...

Though the couple of dozen of people being fired just down the road in Bristol probably do not find it to be all that humorous.

In the wake of the Bloodbath in Bristol, with ESPN's cost-cutting move meaning the firing of big names such as Todd McShay, Keyshawn Johnson, Suzy Kolber and Steve Young, the troubled former New England Patriots wide receiver is tweeting out that he's partnering with the "Worldwide Leader.''

"Excited to announce my new partnership (with) ESPN,'' Brown wrote.

This isn't the first time Brown, once one of the NFL's greatest players but now at age 34 forced into retirement due to his behavioral and legal issues, has pulled such a stunt. Hey, ESPN (despite being a centerpiece of Disney's $24 billion in annual revenue) is struggling in some ways; it's kinda "The 24-Hour-a-Day Stephen A. Smith Show.'' But no. They're not this desperate.

Smith, by the way, is bemoaning the firings and even suggesting that he "could be next.'' That's unlikely; he's the $12 million per year lynchpin of everything the network does. But, Stephen A. notes, "Yes, ladies and gentlemen, I could be next. ... "Let me tell you all something: Don’t ever, ever, ever in your life as a Black person take anything for granted. I told you before, when white folks catch a cold, Black folks catch pneumonia.''

Smith could be next to be fired? Again, Smith has watched and commented on the forced exit of of some of his friends and colleagues and does seem genuinely hurt by it all. But as ubiquitous as he is the network that used to call itself "the Worldwide Leader'' (before Apple, Amazon and YouTube started grabbing some of Disney/ESPN's annual profits) ... he's not really going to get pushed out ... right?

Right. If Stephen A. leaves, it'll be of his choosing. And if AB arrives? It'll be without an invitation.

Brown has previously announced of that he's joining the Baltimore Ravens and that he's hooking up to co-host Skip Bayless' Fox Sports' "Undisputed'' train wreck.

And of course, none of it is the truth ... something Antonio Brown struggles greatly with, whether it's when he takes another salacious dig at Tom Brady, or dealing with psychological challenges, or fighting off law enforcement officials, or just embarrassing himself - as is the case here.

MAY 16 TENNESSEE TIME We got the Patriots full regular-season schedule last week. Now it's time to piece together the pre-season slate.

PATS MAKE DATES WITH AARON RODGERS, DAK PRESCOTT

As the Patriots' schedule continues to leak out ahead of Thursday night's official announcement, three more key dates have been filled out.

New England will play against Aaron Rodgers and the New York Jets in Week 3 (away) and 18 (home), and will travel to Dallas to meet Dak Prescott and the Cowboys in Week 4.

Rodgers' visit to Gillette Stadium will be on Jan. 7, 2024, the last Sunday of the regular season. The Pats will play at AT&T Stadium in Arlington on Oct. 1.

That means in the first four weeks of the season the Patriots will face quarterbacks Jalen Hurts (Eagles), Tua Tagovailoa (Dolphins), Rodgers and Prescott.

PATRIOTS TO HOST PATRICK MAHOMES, SUPER BOWL CHAMPION KANSAS CITY CHIEFS IN WEEK 15?

The New England Patriots will welcome the Super Bowl Champions to Gillette Stadium for a late-season, Monday night matchup in 2023.

Just in time for Christmas, quarterback Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs will visit Foxboro for a Week 15 matchup on Monday Night Football Dec. 18.

The Patriots last faced the defending champs in October 2020. The Chiefs defeated the Brian Hoyer-Jarrett Stidham led Patriots 26-10, who were without the services of then-quarterback Cam Newton, who was forced to miss the game while in COVID-19 protocol.

Mahomes and the Chiefs captured the 2022 NFL crown in a thrilling, 38-35, victory over Jalen Hurts' Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LVII last February in Arizona.

Earlier on Thursday, it was confirmed that the Patriots will host the Eagles in Week 1, with legendary former quarterback Tom Brady set to be honored by the team, as well.

PATS TO VISIT LAS VEGAS IN OCTOBER; BILLS, GIANTS GAMES CONFIRMED?

With the official release of the collective 2023 NFL Schedule just hours away, details continue to emerge regarding the New England Patriots slate for the upcoming season.

New England will make its way west for a matchup with ex-Pats Josh McDaniels, Jimmy Garoppolo, Chandler Jones and the Las Vegas Raiders on October 15, as first reported by the Boston Sports Journal. It will be New England’s first trip back to Allegiant Stadium since their 30-24 loss in December 2022 — marred by one of the more bizarre plays in franchise history

The Pats will also head to East Rutherford for an NFC East matchup with the New York Giants on Nov. 26 at MetLife Stadium. New England last met the Giants in the 2019 regular season, a 35-14 Patriots victory.

Lastly, the AFC East Champion Buffalo Bills will visit Gillette Stadium in Week 7 on Nov. 22, while the Pats will close the 2023 calendar year with a trip to Orchard Park for a Week 17 matchup on Dec. 31. New England dropped both games to the Bills in 2022: a 24-10 loss at home on Dec 1, and a season-ending 35-23 defeat at Highmark Stadium — a game played in the aftermath of Bills’ safety Damar Hamlin’s health scare.

SUPER BOWL REMATCH

One of the most anticipated matchups of the season now has a date as reports have the Philadelphia Eagles visiting the defending champion Chiefs in Week 11, Nov. 20 at Kansas City.

Patrick Mahomes led the Chiefs to a thrilling, 38-35, victory over Jalen Hurts' Eagles in Super Bowl LVII last February in Arizona.

The Patriots will host both Super Bowl teams at Gillette Stadium in 2023. The Eagles - in addition to a guy named Tom Brady - come to Foxboro in Week 1.

EARLY AFC EAST SHOWDOWN

It won't take long to see how new quarterback Aaron Rodgers and the Jets stack up in the AFC East, as New York will face the three-time defending divisional champion Buffalo Bills on the first Monday Night Football game of the 2023 season.

The Jets will host Josh Allen and the Bills on Sept. 11 in Week 1.

The Patriots have dominated the Jets, winning the last 14 meetings. But they have dropped their last four to the Bills by an average of 17 points per game.

PATS HOST EAGLES IN HOME OPENER?

We know the New England Patriots will host and honor Tom Brady in their 2023 home opener at Gillette Stadium. And we're certain that in Week 10 the Pats will fly to Germany to "host" the Indianapolis Colts.

Otherwise, let the rampant rumors fly!

Outside of official announcements from team owner Robert Kraft concerning Brady's homecoming and the NFL league office confirming the Nov. 12 date with the Colts in Frankfurt, nothing is set in stone about the Pats' schedule.

First, they were rumored to be hosting Brady against the Miami Dolphins in Week 2 on Sunday Night Football. Then came wind that the Pats would play at home in the first two weeks of the season. And now, the latest tweak ...

The Patriots will open the season in Week 1's "Thank You Tom" game against the defending NFC Champion Philadelphia Eagles? A rematch of Super Bowl LII on home turf?

The NFL season will officially get underway with the Detroit Lions visiting the defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs on Thursday, Sept. 7 of Week 1.

We'll have all the answers at 8 p.m. Until then, check back here for all the rumors and confirmed pieces of New England's 2023 schedule.
