The last time we checked in on Patriots linebacker Gary Guyton, he was waiting for the team to send him a formal contract to sign. No biggie… it just hadn’t happened yet.
Instead, something else happened.
Guyton has reached a two-year contract extension with the Patriots, I’m told, giving him a nice little raise to stay in New England through 2011.
Guyton’s exclusive rights tender was slated to pay him the minimum of $470,000 on a one-year contract. Now what does he get?
A $505,000 salary in 2010 and a $1-million salary in 2011, to go along with a signing bonus that is not yet clear.
The former undrafted free agent from Georgia Tech made 85 tackles in 16 games during his second season with the Pats. Accordingly, he also earned almost $350,000 in performance-based pay.
