According to Mike Freeman of CBSSports.com, rumors have been flying that the New England Patriots are “phasing out” wide receiver Wes Welker. The truth though is that they might be instead looking to trade him.

The Patriots aren’t phasing Welker out. They are preparing to trade him.

Several league sources said this is more than some remote possibility. This might actually be a probability and the team is seeing if Edelman could fit into Welker’s shoes should the team trade him.

This is more the Patriots Way than a phasing out. A sort of stashing of Welker — and by trading Welker, they would have total control of his destination city. The Patriots traded Randy Moss, and trading Welker before the Oct. 30 deadline would be very Bill Belichick.

Now is the time for the Patriots to trade Welker with him approaching the backside of his career. I wouldn’t be shocked if they received a second or third round pick in return for him. He’s a proven receiver that can catch 100 passes a season. The only problem is that Welker may not be a good fit in any other offense but the Patriots’.

  • he is getting doubled teamed over the middle.they are trying to make a hasty judgement towards welker ,because they sucked as a team in game 2.Maybe brady should take some of the blame instead of blaming it all on the recievers.his throws were not that great.Welker is one of the best recievers they have had if not the best.
  • I don't Think anybody Knows What Their Talking ABOUT!
  • Bill Belichick has made some really dumb decisions, but this might be the dumbest yet. Welker is too independent for Bill to handle. Just before the Jets game where Ryan was being mocked for having a foot fetish, Bill ordered the players not to mention it at a press conference. Welker had a play on words that irritated Bill and he benched him for the game. That was stupid. His thin skin now threatens the team itself.

Mystery surrounds Welker's diminished playing time

Wes Welker caught more passes over the past five seasons than any other NFL player. So why is he spending more time on the New England Patriots sideline this year? Newcomer Brandon Lloyd has taken over the top receiving spot and three-year backup Julian Edelman has improved while Welker was involved in an offseason contract dispute and could leave as a free agent after this year...

Are the Patriots thinking about trading Wes Welker?

The conspiracy theorist are out in full force on whether or not the New England Patriots are phasing out wide receiver Wes Welker for a particular reason. Some pundits are suggesting that Welkers lack of touches and plays is due to them preparing themselves to be with him. WEEI sports radio in Boston via Peter King reported just that. “I think they’re preparing for life...

Welker's Role Remains A Mystery

What's going on with Wes Welker in the Patriots offense? After not starting last week, Welker's role for 2012 remains a mystery.

Wes Welker’s Days Numbered?

Does the Patriot organization surprise anyone any longer? They allow aging superstars to walk year after year refueling through the draft and free agency. Que Wes Welker. 31 years-old, expired contract and he’s caught well over a 100 balls four of the last five seasons. Man wants his money and rightfully so. Let’s put things into prospective. If New England planned on re-signing...

Trouble in New England?

After the first two games of the Patriots season, they are sitting a 1-1, certainly a disappointment but nothing to get concerned about yet. What does seem to be troubling though, is WR Wes Welker’s diminished role early on this season. He is currently sitting behind Brandon Llyod and Julian Edelman on the depth chart and one could assume that if Hernandez did not go down...

Week 3 fantasy football five things

1. Buy Brandon Lloyd and Wes Welker If any Brandon Lloyd or Wes Welker owners in your leagues are antsy about Welker's demotion or New England's signings of Deion Branch and Kellen Winslow, now is a good time to swoop in for a steal. Both Welker and Lloyd will establish themselves as second-receiver options in the near future, and perhaps as soon as this week. The Branch...

Deion Branch’s Return Shouldn't Take Snaps From Wes Welker, Will Enhance Tom Brady's Options

Deion Branch is back in New England, and the Patriots are excited to get the reliable No. 84 back on the field. After being a last-minute cut during roster trim downs on August 31, Branch's locker in the Patriots locker room has remained in tact with the expectation being that he'd find his way back onto the roster. Well, on Wednesday, he did just that. Unlike Kellen Winslow...

Tom Brady, Wes Welker Injuries Not Something to 'Celebrate' for Bernard Pollard, Who Knows He's 'Villain' to Patriots Fans

The Patriots are playing the Ravens this weekend. It will be a tough matchup, but it shouldn't strike fear into too many New England fans' hearts -- unless, that is, they remember that Bernard Pollard is suiting up for Baltimore. Pollard is a common name in New England for the worst of reasons. When Tom Brady went down in the most frightening fashion at the beginning of the...

Potential trade targets for the Buffalo Bills

In two polarizing weeks, Ryan Fitzpatrick, C.J. Spiller and the Buffalo Bills showed fans a full range of possibilities. They sat back and allowed the New York Jets to pummel them, then dished that treatment out in kind to the Kansas City Chiefs. It’s safe to say the real Buffalo Bills fall somewhere in the middle of all that. If so, then it’s tough to argue this team is perfect...

Week 2 Recap: Arizona Cardinals at New England Patriots

I’m going to say some things in this recap that are going to piss Patriots’ fans off. I’m going to say some things in this recap that are going to piss Cardinals’ fans off. Patriots Loss Always Equals Week Of Screaming, Panic

So once again, the screamers are proven to be morons. Losses, rare as they are, are treated with insanity by radio hosts and columnists. While the usual suspects have been screaming about how the Patriots were being “cheap” and not wanting to pay Brian Waters after his Pro Bowl season in 2011, others were reporting something quite different. Last night and this morning, Shalise...
