Jimmy Garoppolo isn’t ready to take over for Tom Brady just yet, despite his quick release and impressive pickup of New England Patriots speak. Garoppolo is still fighting Ryan Mallett for the No. 2 role, and that battle could get close in training camp. Garoppolo will have to progress to beat out Mallett for a roster spot, however. Garoppolo said his aim is to be “consistently good, not occasionally great.” The rookie has showed occasionally great moments, but he has lacked his desired consistency. Garoppolo had to take a lap in Wednesday’s practice after bumbling a snap, and he went just 3-for-15 in 11-on-11 drills. He was much better on Tuesday, however, and he showed progress throughout organized team activities. Mallett didn’t have a chance to defend his backup spot on the roster during minicamp because of an undisclosed injury, but the fourth-year pro also has to show improvement to ensure his roster spot. Check out this week’s winners and losers from minicamp: WINNERS James W...

Devin McCourty: Darrelle Revis Buying In To Patriots’ Team-First Mentality

WATERTOWN, Mass. — Devin McCourty didn’t seem overly concerned when talking about star cornerback Darrelle Revis’ absence from New England Patriots minicamp. In fact, the Patriots safety chose to focus on the positives of a starter being out of practice. Organized team activities and minicamp are the perfect opportunity for a team to jell, and while nearly every player is...

Patriots' linebacker corps better through attrition, deft acquisitions

Leading up to the 2014 NFL Draft, very few considered linebacker depth amongst the New England Patriots' pressing needs. This despite the fact that weak side mainstay and defensive captain Jerod Mayo missed the last 10 games of the season after tearing his pectoral muscle, and not taking into account that starting middle linebacker Brandon Spikes was essentially fired late last...

Completely useless ranting and an inappropriately-timed Patriots' projected 53 man roster

Patriots Keep Three QBs, Seven Receivers In 53-Man Roster Projection

The New England Patriots look primed for another division-winning season, but the team has major voids in depth for the second straight year. Narrowing down a 53-man roster projection typically is a difficult task. After first glance, it’s normal to wind up with 56 or 57 players making the roster, but after going through the easy cuts in NESN.com’s first 53-man roster projection...

Patriots Putting Pieces Together For Successful 2014 Season (Video)
