Shutdown Corner:
He won't be replacing Tom Brady as the actual captain of the New England Patriots,
but Elton John will be the team's honorary captain when the Patriots play the
Bucs in Tampa Bay in the regular season.
From the
Boston Herald's "Tracked Down" feature:
Sir Elton John schmoozing a posse of New England Patriots and his BFs Robert
& Myra Kraft in the Gillette Stadium owner’s box before his sold-out show
with Billy Joel. (Elton let it slip that he’ll be the Pats’ honorary captain
when Tom Brady & Co. take on Tampa Bay at London’s Wembley Stadium Oct. 25)
. . .
What does it mean to be an honorary captain? I'm not sure. I think it means
that Elton John will be calling all of the offensive plays for the Patriots in
the first half. I think he also has to serenade Tom Brady with a special
rendition of "Tiny Dancer" just before kickoff. Hold him closer, Elton.
