In an unexpected move, the New England Patriots released cornerback Sterling Moore Wednesday evening.
The team also signed defensive back Derrick Martin and linebacker Mike Rivera. New England had an open roster spot after parting ways with linebacker Bobby Carpenter.
Moore, a second-year player, served predominately in a reserve role and appeared in all eight games. Last year in the AFC title game, he broke up a pass in the end zone intended for Lee Evans that helped send the Patriots to the Super Bowl. Source: MassLive.com Attached Thumbnails

Carpenter re-joined the Pats as extra linebacker depth because of injuries to Donta Hightower and Tracy White. He appeared in four games and made two tackles.
