FOXBORO, MA - JANUARY 10: Head coach Bill Belichick (C) and defensive backs coach Josh Boyer (R) of the New England Patriots talk with Leigh Bodden #23 against the Baltimore Ravens during the 2010 AFC wild-card playoff game at Gillette Stadium on January 10, 2010 in Foxboro, Massachusetts. The Patriots are apparently hoping that addition by subtraction could help improve their slumping secondary, as they’ve just parted ways with a veteran member of that much-maligned group.

Per ESPNBoston.com, the Pats released cornerback Leigh Bodden on Friday. His agent, Alvin Keels, confirmed the move in a statement.

“He’s enjoyed this time in New England, but after meeting with Coach (Bill) Belichick this morning, both parties agreed it was time to move on,” Keels said. “Leigh still has a strong desire to play football and welcomes his next opportunity to compete for a Super Bowl. Leigh is totally healthy and can contribute right away.”

Although Belichick, to no one’s surprise, chose not to comment on the matter, he was asked by the media about Bodden’s recent play and uttered a response that spoke volumes: “I think we’ll skip that one right now.”
