The Patriots cut LB Bobby Carpenter on Tuesday, the team announced.
Carpenter re-joined the Pats as extra linebacker depth because of injuries to Donta Hightower and Tracy White. He appeared in four games and made two tackles.
The former first-round pick made 29 tackles playing in all 16 games for the Lions last season.
