The Rap Sheet:
Patriots coach Bill Belichick just made what was likely a very difficult phone call. He informed Sammy Morris of his release.
The news on Morris comes from his agent Mark Slough, who tweeted that reality has set in for the veteran RB. He said, “In 12 yrs I’ve never had this talk w/ #Patriots RB Sammy Morris…just notified of his release. Sammy is consummate professional & class act.”
Morris, the 34-year-old, had been with the Patriots since 2007. He was a fullback, running back, and core special teamer. The thought when he signed was that he was there, in part, to help the younger rookies. No doubt, he did that. As good a guy as Morris is, he probably was OK with that. Still a tough day, though.
If this is the end of his career, Morris finished with 2,955 rushing yards and 26 touchdowns in 11 seasons.
