The New England Patriots released wide receiver Chad Ochocinco earlier today.  While it is unclear of what Chad’s services were to the team, they are no longer necessary.  Number 85 has quite the resume both on and off the field, providing gold candy to anyone with a video camera or a microphone, and being a spectacle on the field with several franchise records with the Cincinnati Bengals as well as 6 pro bowl appearances.  Expectations were high for the 34-year-old wide out, which is a good indication why he was released having only 15 receptions and 1 touchdown with the franchise.

Concerns for the colorful veteran now, especially following the unnoticeable contributions to New England, is shelf life, and whether or not the river dancer formally known as Chad Johnson has anything to offer to an NFL franchise.  Some upside to Chad is that he is definitely coachable.  He was very aware of the culture, style, and guidelines that the closed mouthed professional Patriots demanded, and to everyone’s disbelief, we didn’t get the usual display of celebration or center of attention antics that we were used to seeing from Ochocinco.  Only time will tell if there are interests for an aging past sensation from another franchise with a need.
