Patriots reportedly hiring former Jets assistant as new running backs coach
Mark Konezny-USA TODAY Sports

The New England Patriots have found their new running backs coach.

According to CBS' Jonathan Jones , the Patriots plan to hire Taylor Embree to help the offense. He most recently served as the running backs coach with the New York Jets from 2021 to 2023.

A wide receiver out of UCLA, Embree has experience in the NFL as a player too. He signed with the Chargers as an undrafted free agent in 2012, but was cut at the end of preseason.

That's when he turned to coaching.

Embree started at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas as a graduate assistant in 2012, but returned back to UCLA as a graduate assistant for the 2013 and 2014 season.

He got his first opportunity in the NFL with the Kansas City Chiefs as a defensive assistant in 2016, but then moved to the San Francisco 49ers as an offensive quality control coach from 2017 to 2019.

He returned to his college roots as the tight ends coach at Colorado in 2020. For the 2021 season, Embree took the job with the Jets and stayed there until the end of the 2023 season, but it was reported afterwards that he was not going to return.

The Patriots offensive coaching staff is starting to take shape after they brought in Alex Van Pelt as the offensive coordinator. T.C. McCartney, Ben McAdoo, Tiquan Underwood, Scott Peters and Robert Kugler are also on staff.

Mayo and Van Pelt are still in need of a wide receivers coach and a tight ends coach.
