This news may not relate directly to the Dallas Cowboys, but it is still huge news that could soon be making the mainstream media. According to a report on Deadspin.com, New England Patriots safety Brandon Meriweather allegedly was involved in a shooting at the end of last month in which he gunned down two men. The Deadspin report reads:
New England Patriots safety Brandon Meriweather allegedly shot two men, one of them in the head, during a fight on February 27 outside a house party in Apopka, Florida, according to John Morgan, attorney for the victims.
The trouble started at the Blue Jeans Lounge in Apokpa when a friend of Meriweather’s allegedly beat up a woman, according to Morgan. The woman’s brother arrived later with his own friend, and the conflagration shifted to a nearby party, where the brother soon got the better of Meriweather’s friend in a fight. That’s when Meriweather allegedly pulled out his gun and fired at the brother, grazing the man’s face and hitting the other victim in the head, according to Morgan.
It is going to be interesting to see how this potential big news plays out. If the report happens to be true, the Patriots, like the Cowboys (see what I did there?), will be looking at a hole on their roster at the safety position. Commissioner Goodell will definitely be taking a long look at the developments in this story, but a NFL suspension is the least of Meriweather’s concerns.
