Funny the difference a year makes. All three quarterback from the 2008 are no longer with the New England Patriots. Matt Cassell and Matt Gutierrez are in Kansas City with Scott Pioli and the Patriots just waived 2008 3rd pick Kevin O'Connell according to Mike Reiss of the Boston Globe.Dang! Even Cassell had a terrible preseason in 2008 with fans and media alike thinking he would be cut, but he remained with
the team and proved to be what Dr. Belichick ordered when Brady went
down (oddly enough versus KC) after playing only 7 minutes into the
season.Over at ProFootballTalk, they believe O'Connell could find himslef with his old
buddies Cassell, Gutt and Pioli since Pioli knows O'Connell well and helped select him in the 2008 draft for the Patriots.Although a few speculate the move is being that O'Connell just did not take to the Patriots system as fast as undrafted rookie free agent Brian Hoyer or veteran Andrew Walters. Others view it as a way to bring in a veteran now that Brady is severly hurt and Hoyer/Walters have been improving in camp.A few boards are suggesting the Patriots are looking to trade for another QB, such as , McCown from Tampa Bay, AJ Feeley from Philly or Tylor Thigpen from KC. I believe if that was the case then O'Connell would have been a part of that trade rather than being cut.Others mention Rex Grossman as he may also be cut.... oh brother! In any event, keeping this in mind this is the week of reducing the roster numbers, maybe other veterans such as Laurence Maroney and Tedy Bruschi should be nervous after the Redskins game?IN BILL WE TRUST!!
