The New England Patriots spent the offseason trying to stabilize their shaky defense. So far, so good. Players counted on to play key roles performed well in the Patriots' preseason opener. Their time on the field was limited in Thursday night's 7-6 win over the New Orleans Saints, but the result was satisfying for a team that allowed the second most yards in the NFL last season. First-round draft pick Chandler Jones had a strong game at defensive end and second-rounder Tavon Wilson had three tackles at defensive back. Drew Brees played just two series and completed one of four passes for four yards. The Saints didn't get a first down while the quarterback, who set an NFL record with 5,476 yards passing last year, was in the game.

Drew Brees Hits Fenway Park

This place is legendary Juan… The Saints have been going up against the Pats in some friendly scrimmages and on Wednesday they decided to go catch a game at Fenway.  Brees is a surefire top 3 QB and will most likely go in the first round in every single draft, as there are very few safer picks than #9. New England Patriots: Ups and Downs from first Preseason Game

UP: Chandler Jones This is stating the obvious for any Pats fan that watched the game, but the first rounder from Syracuse impressed in his debut. Starting at defensive end, he consistently got push and pressure whenever he was on the field. This was apparent early on, as Drew Brees had to throw the ball away to avoid a sack on the Saints’ second offensive play. Another series...

Brees And Vilma Leaving The Courtroom

I’ve got his back Juan… Drew Brees and Jonathan Vilma leave court where U.S. District Court Judge Ginger Berrigan heard the arguments on the NFL’s motion to dismiss Vilma’s suspension.  Brees has been very supportive during the entire process and vocal against the commissioners ruling.  Judge Berrigan told Lawyers that she wanted to rule in favor of Vilma, but wasn’t...

Nike swooshes on new NFL jerseys are not backwards (Picture)

Now that Nike is the official sponsor of jerseys across the NFL, a lot of buzz has been created regarding what some perceive to be a backwards Nike swoosh symbol. If you look at the photo above, you may be inclined to say that the swoosh on Tom Brady’s jersey is backwards while the one on Drew Brees’ jersey is facing the correct way. The Twitter world was in an uproar on Thursday...

Drew Brees Pays Homage to Ted Williams With Red Sox Hat as Saints Take in Game at Fenway Park (Photos)

Drew Brees will still be wearing black and gold when the Saints take the field this season -- although that was in doubt up until signing a new $100 million at the end of July. But on Wednesday, New Orleans franchise quarterback was donning the colors of another team. Brees and his Saints teammates, who are preparing for Thursday night's preseason game with the Patriots, took...

Saints’ receivers make life a Brees for Drew

Drew Brees of the New Orleans Saints had one of the most prolific passing seasons ever, eclipsing Dan Marino’s 27-year-old single-season passing record in only 15 games. Brees is usually among the league’s passing leaders year in and year out, but you don’t accomplish a feat like that without quality receivers which the Saints have [...]

Patriots Show Signs, More Red Sox Beer Drama

The Patriots and Saints didn’t exactly light up the scoreboard at Gillette Stadium last night, as the Patriots took a 7-6 win in their preseason opener. Rookie Chandler Jones seems to be the takeaway story from this one, as the first round pick was impressive in his time on the field, showing the pass rush that fans and media have been clamoring for in recent years. Get all the...

State Of Louisiana: Safe Haven For Embattled Quarterbacks

Drew Brees. Zach Mettenberger. And now Robert Bolden. What is it about Louisiana that makes it such a great place for footballers down on their luck? Brees, coming out of a franchise tag, his throwing shoulder torn, his pride wounded, was looking for a home. The Saints gave him one; and now, nearly six years later, he gets roughly the same attention from New Orleans football fans...

Dear NFL, Please give the refs whatever they want

As the NFL pre-season kicked off in earnest tonight, with 12 teams getting their first taste of live action in 6 games, we were generally thrilled at the return of our favorite sport to our television sets. But that exuberence was quickly tempered by the painful reminder that these games are currently being officiated by amateurish, inexperienced replacement referees. There is currently...

Offensive Line Fantasy Value of the New Orleans Saints

The New Orleans Saints have had what most people would call “a tumultuous” offseason.  They have had to endure the infamous “BountyGate” scandal which cost their coaches and players a multitude of games suspended, a huge fine, loss of draft picks and a serious hit to their reputation.  Their franchise player held out until just recently, and they lost a couple of key parts...
