Found April 11, 2013 on Down and Distance:

This year has been a rough one for New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski. Will Gronk be ready for week 1 in the 2013 season?(Photo credit: SBnation.com; Photo by Jared Wickerham/Getty Images) First, he broke his forearm in a week 11 matchup against Indianapolis while trying to block an extra point. Then, he re-broke the same arm in a divisional playoff win against the Houston Texans. During his second surgery on the injured arm, an infection was discovered. Following the surgery, he was put on a six-week antibiotic treatment to deal with the infection. Now, instead of a planned surgery to install a new plate in his arm, he is apparently (according to the Boston Herald) going to put that on hold and continue antibiotic treatments to be sure that the infection has cleared up. A source close to the situation said that they were going to “…hold off for a few weeks to make sure infection gone before going back in.” Gronkowski consulted with his agent, Drew Rosenhaus, as well as team officials, team doctors, and consultants from outside the organization and they decided that it would be best to put the surgery on hold to give the infection a better chance of clearing up. He WILL need another surgery to replace the plate in his arm and hold the bone together, and the recovery time is expected to be around 10 weeks. Depending on how long the surgery is being put off, at this point it looks like Gronkowski will be ready for week 1, barring any other setbacks. The beginning of his season could be at risk, though, if the infection lingers and persists further. If that occurs and it is found again during the surgery, the beginning of his season could be at risk.   What do you think? Will Rob Gronkowski be ready to suit up for the Pats in week 1?
