Following New England’s 31-14 victory over Tampa Bay, the team worked out free agent running back Clinton Portis. Ian Rapoport of the Boston Herald reported that the Patriots held a private workout with the former Washington Redskins running back. The 29-year-old Portis hasn’t been able to stay healthy the past couple of seasons, but when he’s on the field, he has the ability to be one of the NFL’s most dominating running backs. Last season for the ‘Skins, Portis played five games and ran for 227 yards while scoring twice. Portis’ most impressive season came in 2003 when he racked up 1,591 total rushing yards and scored 14 touchdowns for the Denver Broncos.
