The Pats marched 80 yards in six plays after the Jets had scored the game's first touchdown with 1:20 left. A 23-yard pass from Brady to Gronkowski brought the ball into Jets territory with 42 seconds left. A 15-yard face mask penalty against the Jets brought the ball to the 16 with 38 seconds remaining.
The Jets scored nine points in the final 4:44 of the second quarter to take a 9-6 lead.
New York was shut down for most of the half by New England's injury-depleted defense. The Jets got going thanks to their defense. Jamaal Westerman sacked Brady in the end zone for a safety. Brady tried to get rid of the ball as he was hit, but it was intentional grounding, insuring the safety.
