By Jim Donaldson Not only did the Patriots go into Saturday night's game hoping to snap a three-game postseason losing streak dating back to Super Bowl XLII, but they also were trying to notch their first posteason win in three tries against the Broncos. The Pats had played them twice before in the playoffs, both times in Denver. They first met in January, 1987, in the conference semifinals. New England had won its first AFC championship the previous season, but, after winning the division title in '86, couldn't get past the Broncos, losing 22-17. The Pats' last hope for victory was crushed when defensive end Rulon Jones sacked QB Tony Eason in the end zone for a safety with 1:37 remaining. New England led, 17-13, in the third quarter, after Eason threw his second touchdown pass of the game to Stanley Morgan -- this one a 45-yarder on a flea-flicker play.
