Philadelphia Eagles defensive end Mike Patterson's arteriovenous malformation in his brain can be treated and is not career-threatening, the Wilmington News Journal reported Friday. The report said Patterson will play this year and more information will be available at the beginning of next week. Patterson cannot be placed on the physically unable to perform list because he took part in practice at training camp. That means the Eagles must place him on injured reserve or keep him on the active roster. Patterson was released from the hospital a week ago, two days after having a four-minute seizure at practice during which he lost consciousness. Brain arteriovenous malformation, or AVM, is a tangling of blood vessels in the skull that requires surgery or radiation. Patterson had 37 tackles and two sacks last season as a starter on Philadelphia's defensive line.
