Found December 17, 2011 on The Penalty Flag:
A prototypical “game manager” no more, San Francisco 49ers quarterback, Alex Smith,  has proven to his coaching staff, teammates, and fans that he may be worth more than his current one year deal.  Back at the beginning of the season, every person involved in the San Francisco organization assumed the seven-year starter’s new one year deal was just to make room for rookie Colin Kaepernick.  Everyone except for first year head coach Jim Harbaugh and of course, Smith himself. Without an offseason worth of OTA’s, position meetings, and weeks worth of snaps taken by both Smith and Kaepernick some critics may say that Coach Harbaugh took the easy way out and named Alex Smith the starter.  However, the long time quarterback turned head coach may have seen something in Smith that only he could see. The comparisons have continually been made between Alex Smith and Aaron Rogers having both come out in the same year.  Many people say that the 49ers made a mistake taking Smith with the first overall pick instead of Rogers and the typical football fan would agree.  However, most of the time it is never mentioned that during Aaron Rogers’ first three seasons he was able to [...]

Bowman makes big strides in second NFL season

(Eds: With AP Photos.) By JANIE McCAULEY AP Sports Writer NaVorro Bowman is no longer just San Francisco's other inside linebacker, or the inexperienced young guy. Teamed with Patrick Willis, he gives the 49ers one of the most feared linebacking tandems in the NFL. Opposing offenses that try to focus Willis find they must also reckon with Bowman. The second-year pro out of Penn...

Browns v. Cardinals in Cleveland and the Rest of Sunday’s Week 15 NFL Picks

It would be his first start since the fifth game of 2010. McCoy...

Cleveland Browns rule QB Colt McCoy out, send TE to IR

In a move which wasn’t too surprising, the Cleveland Browns have ruled out second-year QB Colt McCoy this week in the club’s contest against the Arizona Cardinals. McCoy has been sent home during the Browns practice this week, but Cleveland had another player sustain a concussion last Thursday against the Pittsburgh Steelers, and put him on season-ending injured...

Colt McCoy Remains Absent From Practice

Quarterback Colt McCoy was sent home for the second straight day Friday due to the concussion sustained in Week 14, according to Nate Ulrich of the Akron Beacon Journal. Fantasy Spin: Seneca Wallace is expected to lead Cleveland into battle Sunday at Arizona.
