Seahawks fans will continue to stand behind Pete Carroll as in their minds, no way did he cost the Seahawks the game by icing the kicker and calling a time out. Looking back, it’s exactly what happened. Sure, the Seahawks defense allowed the Atlanta Falcons to get into field goal range with ease. With only 30 seconds remaining the defense should have been able to get the job done, but they didn’t. The game came down to a field goal with eight seconds remaining. Matt Bryant missed his first attempt at the 49-yard field goal, but a time out, called by Pete Carroll gave him a second chance. The result, he nailed it.… Read more

  • Carroll should be more worried about why his defense did show up to the first half of game in two consecutive play-off games instead of trying to manipulate the outcome by calling a time out that came back to bite the Seahawks in the A**S.
  • What?? I think you mean "offense" (didn't show up - right?); I can understand that, because offensive scores were slow to start in the past two playoff games. The defense did a great job but, unfortunately, blew it at the last minute in yesterday's game by allowing the Falcons to get down field far enough for the field goal attempt - but, other than that, the Seattle defense has been strong ALL SEASON LONG and into the post season as well. All in all, nobody can deny that that comeback rally was amazing. Too bad they lost by two points - a heart breaker for sure. By the way, the "icing the kicker" play has been used by coaches all over the league for years - sometimes it can work, other times - not. Yes, I wish he wouldn't have called that time out. If he hadn't, the missed kick would have ended the game and today everyone would be talking about the comeback win instead of criticizing the coach. I give kudos to Coach Carroll for putting together a great team and getting the Seahawks into the post-season; he made all the right roster moves to make that possible, including drafting the amazing rookie QB. Next year: watch out because the Seahawks will be RED HOT and ready to WIN WIN WIN. Go Seahawks!!
  • First of all don't be too sure that the kicker having heard the timeout called purposely kicked it wide to rub it in carroll's face. His next kick was dead center and would have been good from ten yards further back. It's just great to see carroll out of the post season because of the phony lying sack of shiit he is. Yeah sure, we all believe you didn't know anything about what was going on at USC carroll. How's your golf game you jerkoff.
  • I sure hope your online name isn't referring to the NY Giants. If so, maybe you should be more worried about how your team didn't even make the playoffs. I mean, really! You are going to bring up the USC stuff?? The point of the article was not about how the second kick was good - it was about how it would been a miss if the time-out call was not called. So - what is your point anyway? Throwing around name-calling and living in the past. Real mature.
  • My point is I don't like carroll and was glad to see him and his seachickens bounced from the playoffs, he's a phony. And I'm fully aware that the Giants are not in the playoffs, as a fan I can admit they did not get the job done, but 4 Super Bowl Championships is still something Giants fans can be proud of. Besides, what is there to worry about, it's a game not life and death.
  • I get that you don't like Pete Carroll. I am okay with that - not going to try to tell you who to like or not to like. But, why all the name-calling? I am glad for your Giants having several rings - that is good for them and you. Past years are just that - past years; and now this season for the Seahawks will be that too: just another past year. There will be some teams that return to the SB and some new ones to get there in the future. That is the beauty of the game. If it was the same teams returning year after year, that would just be boring.
  • Carroll DID cost them the game! He needs learn when to keep his MOUTH SHUT! He made comment about a "time out" the Ref misunderstood. That was what I saw when it happened and on the replay.
  • I agree. That call and the "go for it on fourth and 1 while in field goal range" combined to cost the game.
  • Petey is an idiot. Go back to college ball where you can cheat and pat guys on the ass. He has no class, running up the score when ahead 40 points at the end of the season against defenseless teams.
  • That was only one of a few mistakes made by pom pom. The title of the article is right, you hire a college coach, that's what you get!
  • bla bla bla Go 49R's!!!
  • Give me a break armchair QBs, Pete did what every other NFL coach would do. We had a few chances we blew, so did they. It was a great game...close but no cigar. Next year we're better and badder! Good luck to the 49ers.
    Go SeaHawks!!!
  • I think seattle could have won if they would of kick 3 pointers in the first half instead of trying to get a first down and to all Im a seahawk fan but they are not my #1 team my team needs a better QB so you could guess my team I would love to have Wilson play for my team he is a great QB. Pete is a good Coach but sometimes we make bad choices. Wait tell next year!
  • Seattle fans should be very proud of how our QB played all year and no question in my mind he deserves the rookie of the year.If the voters ignore all the hype and hoop law of RG3 and Andrew Luck he will win it.Seattle lost that game because the coach Pete Carrol is to busy on the side lines pat players on the ass then doing his job!We dont need another cheer leader on the side line we need a head coach focused on the game and situation. He didn't have control of his players at USC and its worse here in the NFL.The whole Seattle staff should be fired for that fiasco.Terrible,Terrible, coaching!!The man knows how to find and get tallent on the field but find some one else to coach and direct them...Please!!
  • had carroll not looked around like who called the time out, thats what pissed me off he couldnt wiggle off the hook this time. dumb call, it hardly ever works, in fact you are giving a kicker if he misses the correction on his next kick. if it goes thru the 1st time fine you froze him from what the next kick goes thru as well.
  • Is it just me or does Pete Carroll seem to spend alot of time on the playing field during plays and in between..
  • Three things lost the game for the Seahawks. A terrible squib kick after the touchdown. The fact that our great defense couldn't stop Tony Gonzalez on two straight catches. Who's the linebacker that should be able to run with that old man. And three the timeout called that would have won the game. So the three mistakes were special teams, defense that gave up 30 points that had allowed maybe 15 a game in the regular season. And coaching was the last mistake. Actually the offense and the sure thing rookie of the year could have won the game. End of comments.
  • This is GREAT!There are seventeen comments on this page alone, some are made by repeat people, so here is my suggestion. SINCE YOU ALL ARE SO QUALIFIED TO BE NFL COACHES, I think that there are still a couple of vacancies left, fill out an application and get an interview, other than that just realize that this is a just a game. Great season for both teams to make it as far as they did, now let's sit back and wait to see what happens next year.
  • Both the Oregon duck and the Seahawks lost big games this year because they went for it on 4th down instead of kicking an easy Field Goal. Always kick the FG!!
