According to Peter King of SI.com, the NFL has been “buzzing” since the Colts told defensive end Dwight Freeney they won’t be re-signing him this offseason. I think the Dwight Freeney release had the league buzzing over the weekend. One GM who was very interested already in former Giant pass rusher Osi Umenyiora told me Freeney would leapfrog Umenyiora on his free-agent board. Assuming he wants to play for a Super Bowl contender, Freeney, who turns 33 tomorrow, would be smartest to take a contract that has minimal guarantees and maximum performance incentives. He’s missed but two games due to injury in the last three years, but teams will be skeptical of how much he has left, considering his last two seasons produced a pedestrian 13.5 sacks. I’m not sure why King said the Colts released Freeney because they haven’t.  He’s still a part of their franchise until his contract runs out on March 12th. I’m not sure how much Freeney has left in the tank, but he could be a nice weapon for a ...

Dwight Freeney's post-Indianapolis options limited

With the announcement that Dwight Freeney won't be re-signed by the Indianapolis Colts, the veteran defensive end will be heading into free agency for the first time. With just 12 tackles and five sacks last season, Freeney may have a difficult time finding work with agreeable pay. For Freeney, playing in a 4-3 defense is essential. He didn't fit in the Colts' new...

Is Dwight Freeney a fit for Falcons?

Dwight Freeney had a disappointing season in 2012 with the Indianapolis Colts. Freeney had just 5 sacks and 12 tackles in 14 games last season but was hampered by an ankle injury that lingered during the season. He also didn't seem to be a good fit with the 3-4 defense that the Colts made the switch to in 2012. Even with a poor 2012, Freeney has averaged eight sacks per season...

Cowboys & Falcons Options For DE Dwight Freeney?

ESPN’s Paul Kuharsky writes that the Dallas Cowboys and Atlanta Falcons could be two options for impending free agent DE Dwight Freeney. Kuharsky adds that Freeney will almost certainly have to take “far less money” in his next contract, but believes he could make some of that back with an incentive-laden deal. The Seahawks have also been tossed out as a speculative landing...

Atlanta A Potential Landing Spot For DE Dwight Freeney?

Pat Yasinskas of ESPN.com writes that DE Dwight Freeney could be an option for the Atlanta Falcons. Yasinskas adds that Freeney isn’t a “long-term answer,” but he could provide some much needed help opposite of John Abraham next season. The Colts informed Freeney that they have no intentions of bringing him back next season, so he will be free to sign with a new team as of...

Dwight Freeney: New York Jets a Great Fit For Former Colts Stud

New York Jets fans, Dwight Freeney was recently cut by the Indianapolis Colts after 11 seasons and 107.5 sacks. He is the edge pass-rusher the Jets have never had in the Rex Ryan era! When looking at Freeney, think Michael Strahan, more on that thought in a moment. The Jets have tried and missed on previous edge rushers in the way of Calvin Pace, who in essentially the same number...

Ex-Colts LB Dwight Freeney Has NFL 'Buzzing' As Free-Agent Catch

The release of Dwight Freeney by the Colts had the league buzzing over the weekend, Peter King of Sports Illustrated reports. Assuming he wants to play for a Super Bowl contender, Freeney, who turns 33 tomorrow, would be smartest to...

Indianapolis Colts: Deconstruction of a Champion to a New Era

Why The New England Patriots Should Sign Charles Woodson and Dwight Freeney

The Patriots should seriously consider adding both Charles Woodson and Dwight Freeney. As recently history has shown, with Tom Brady as their quarterback, the New England Patriots are a perennial Super Bowl contender. Yet, the Patriots have been unable to win the big game in recent years, coming up small in the big spot, seemingly over and over again. Whether it was the two Super...

The Sports Hound: 2013 NFL Mock Draft 2.2

With two possible future Hall of Fame players (Dwight Freeney & Charles Woodson) being released from their teams, the mock may change just a bit.  After what I expect to be a poor performance at the NFL Draft Combine, Manti Te’o will drop out of the 1st round. Also check out my list of NFL Mock [...]

Peter King’s Column Is Worthless To Anyone But Him. So Here Goes!

When last we left mishy mosher, Peter King, he explained how God communicates with us through His divine choice of which Seinfeld rerun is broadcast on TBS each weekday. Peter suggested the Browns to pay Joe Flacco $35 million in 2013 to lure him away from Baltimore in free agency. PK also said the Ravens should draft Manti Te’o in the first round to replace Ray Lewis, because...

Packers Release Charles Woodson, Colts Say Goodbye to Dwight Freeney & Other NFL News

Even though Super Bowl XLVII wrapped up the 2012-2013 NFL season, there is still plenty of action going on in the league. Granted all of it is happening off the field, yet there has been some activity around the league. Teams are looking at their respective rosters and seeing who is no longer needed. Some of the teams released some heavy hitters while other teams resigned players...

Free Agency Notes: Greg Jennings, Jake Long, Mike Wallace, Cliff Avril

Peter King of SI.com writes that free agents like WR Greg Jennings and OT Jake Long ”will likely be disappointed” by the kind of interest they’ll find on the open market this year. King mentions that both Jennings and Long could be impacted by their injury histories and the fact that there are other options available at their respective positions. King adds that Mike Wallace...

Jumping shirtless into a cactus is the physical equivalent of the mental masochism required to dive into Peter King’s column each week. The MMQB takedown will be posted later this morning, once I get through pitifully squealing like this dude. – Donovan McNabb congratulated Danica Patrick for winning the Daytona 500 when she only secured the pole for the race. That’s a highly...
