Peterson entered Sunday believing he could still reach the record, even though he needed 208 yards coming into the game. Peterson was also focused on getting Minnesota a win. After the Chicago Bears won earlier Sunday, the Vikings need to beat Green Bay to earn a postseason spot as the final Wild Card in the NFC.
With his run early in the third quarter Sunday, Peterson now owns the fourth highest single-season total in NFL history, passing Earl Campbell, Chris Johnson and Terrell Davis along the way. Peterson had 17 carries for 91 yards in the first half of Sundays game, putting him on the mark to get 2,000 and the record this week.
