One of the biggest guessing games in NFL history came to an end on March 19 when quarterback Peyton Manning announced to the world he was going to sign with the Denver Broncos of the AFC West. Many fans felt he might end up with the San Francisco 49ers or the Tennessee Titans, but Manning might have more control and say regarding the offense in Denver.

Manning reportedly called John Elway, a Broncos executive, on the morning of the 19th and told him he was looking forward to playing in Denver for him. He then let the 49ers and Titans know that he had decided to head to Denver. However, Manning and his agent Tom Condon still hadn’t worked out an official agreement with the Broncos by the evening. But it is believed there won’t be any major obstacles in the way of him signing a new contract.

There will be a problem for some people though, most notably Denver’s current starting quarterback Tim Tebow, who is expected to be traded in the near future. The NFL Network reported that the Broncos have already shopped Tebow around to test the waters. It’s likely that Broncos head coach John Fox and his assistants will listen to what Manning has to say when it comes to his ideas on how the offense should be run. Manning might have been assured that’ll be the case by Elway, who spent his entire playing career with Denver.

If Manning had decided to go to San Francisco it’s doubtful that head coach Jim Harbaugh would give him much control over the offensive goings on. Harbaugh is more of an old school type of football guy and has his own ideas on how to build an NFL championship team, which seems to be with a strong defense as well as an offense that’s focused on running. However, that’s not really Manning’s game and Harbaugh just isn’t the sort of man to give his quarterback a lot of control. It’s expected Manning will run the offense from the line of scrimmage with Denver.

Tennessee was always in the running to land Manning since he played his college ball there in the mid 1990s with the Tennessee Volunteers and fans there have an ongoing love affair with him. The Titans have a pretty good football team, but the way the club went about courting him didn’t really appear that attractive to Manning. Team owner Bud Adams more or less ordered his managerial team to get a deal done with him or heads may roll.

The Seattle Seahawks and the Kansas City Chiefs also failed in their attempts to woo the four-time NFL MVP, but there was obviously something in the way Elway came across that piqued Manning’s interest. There was an announcement on March 20 which said Manning had signed a five year deal with Denver worth approximately $96 million, with a press conference scheduled for later in the day.

The big questions in the NFL now will be how will Manning’s physical condition hold up after undergoing several neck surgeries and where will Tebow end up.

Norv Turner would rather have seen Peyton Manning sign with the 49ers

When reports first indicated Peyton Manning was considering the Broncos in free agency, Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers brashly stated he hoped Peyton would choose his division rival. It’s safe to say Norv Turner doesn’t share his enthusiasm. “You know, I thought he would have looked great in a 49er uniform,” Turner told Darren Smith on XX1090 in San Diego. “It would...

Peyton Manning to the Broncos: Fantasy Impact

Tebow-Mania has come to an end now that future 1st ballot Hall of Famer Peyton Manning has agreed to join John Elway’s Denver Broncos. From a football standpoint this was a questionable move for Manning who spurned two teams that are much better in San Francisco and Tennessee. With that said Manning is heading to a winnable division and is joining a team that will allow him to...

John Elway: Tim Tebow disappointed but understood Broncos adding Peyton Manning

As one friend told me, signing Peyton Manning was the perfect “get out of Tebow free” card for the Broncos. Between Elway refusing to name Tim Tebow the team’s franchise quarterback for most of the season, and John Fox saying Tebow would be screwed in a normal offense, it was pretty clear Denver had reservations about Timmy. Signing Manning allowed them to get out of the situation...

Peyton Manning is the Best NFL Quarterback, Tim Tebow was the Better College Player

Peyton Manning is a Bronco. I am not surprised by this. I predicted it the minute it was announced that Jim Irsay was going to cut him loose. For five years and $96 million, I would be a Bronco too. Actually, I would have signed for $95 million, but Manning said it wasn’t the money. So the next question is, what happens to Tim Tebow during this off-season of quarterbacks. Tim Tebow...

On the day that the Denver Broncos celebrated the arrival of Peyton Manning, all of the photos of Tim Tebow— that once lined the halls of the team's facility— were taken down, according to The Associated Press. The outright removal of the indelible images of Tebow running, scoring and rallying the troops were removed from the walls and could be a subtle hint of things to...
