Peyton Manning visits Tennessee and shares message with Vols during spring practice
Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports

Tennessee Vols legend Peyton Manning was back on Rocky Top this week and he shared a message with the UT football team.

Manning met with the Vols on Wednesday night, spending some time with the entire team. He also met separately with Tennessee's quarterbacks.

"You get a guy like Peyton Manning come in and talk to the guys last night and he met with the quarterbacks separately on his own," said Tennessee offensive coordinator Joey Halzle on Thursday. "I mean, it's Peyton Manning. There's not much more to say on that one, right? He talks and everybody really listens."

"He was just giving guys a bunch of great nuggets," continued Halzle. "As far as the way he prepared, the way he went about his business, what his daily routine was, [what] his weekly routine was. And our guys were taking pages of notes on it. I think it's going to be something that's crazy beneficial for those guys."

Vols true freshman quarterback Jake Merklinger said it was "super cool" to spend some time with Peyton.

"It was super cool to see such a Tennessee legend like Peyton Manning," said Merklinger. "It was really cool to just hear from him, hear how he played the game, his advice to us."

There's no one better to get advice from when it comes to playing quarterback at Tennessee. The offense may not be the same as what Peyton ran back in the 90s, but the pressure of playing quarterback while wearing orange and white is the same. And the pride that comes with donning the Power T is the same.

Peyton knows as well as anyone what it takes to have longterm success while playing the quarterback position. Any advice he has to share is certainly worth taking notes on.
