PFF calls a former Tennessee Vols standout one of the most underrated players in the NFL

Pro Football Focus recently named the most underrated player on each NFL roster and a former Tennessee Vols standout was among the names they listed.

PFF thinks that former Vols offensive lineman Trey Smith is the most underrated player on the Kansas City Chiefs' roster.

From PFF: The Chiefs' offensive tackles got a lot of attention last season for all the wrong reasons, while Joe Thuney and Creed Humphrey continued to excel on the interior. But there was not much talk of right guard Trey Smith’s performance despite him being one of the most consistent guards in the league. He is one of just three players to have played more than 4,000 snaps over the past three seasons — with Humphrey and Patrick Mahomes being the other two — and his 76.5 overall grade over that span ranks 11th among guards.

Smith was a first round talent in the 2021 NFL Draft that fell all the way to the sixth round (No. 226 overall selection by the Chiefs) due to concerns over blood clots that he dealt with during his time at Tennessee.

The Jackson, TN native missed just four games during his college career (during his sophomore season in 2018) due to the blood clots, but that was enough to give NFL teams pause when considering Smith in the draft.

Kansas City's decision, however, to select Smith has paid off in a huge way over the last couple of seasons. Smith has become a mainstay along the Chiefs' offensive line during their back-to-back Super Bowl runs.

Smith is scheduled to be a free agent after the 2024 season, giving the former Vol a chance to finally cash in after being a massive bargain for the Chiefs over the last few years.
